Afternoon allWe are saddened to hear the news this morning that Rothwell Juniors/ Wakefield AFC U10 player Ella Lynch, passed away peacefully yesterday after a brave battle with cancer. We know as a club how this feels having suffered sad losses of players and coaches in recent years, we know it’s important that the football community comes together as one, like others did for us to show love and support to Ella’s family, friends and to all those connected to Rothwell Juniors Football Club and Wakefield AFC Juniors at this very difficult time. The WRGFL have asked teams to hold a minutes silence before games this weekend, 28 February 2026, to show our respects to Ella.As a club I would like to kindly ask all our teams who are playing this weekend to hold a minutes silence or applause, whichever you feel is most appropriate to your age group before your games on Saturday or Sunday.Rest in Peace Ella❤️⚽️❤️ ... After a month without a game due to the rain, it was great to get the u14 Whites back to football again with an away cup quarter final at Ryhill.A fantastic team performance followed in a really competitive game, with the lads coming back from a goal down to win 4-1. Two goals from Harrison (including a spectacular overhead kick), one from Tristan and one from Ben L made the difference but everyone played their part from front to back. Roll on the semi final! ... Methley Vipers U9 vs Durkar Devils Yellows U9Today was a home game in the league against Durkar Devils and what lovely weather we had. It was nice to see the sun come out! The game was a great one with some great play on show from both teams with end-to-end battles. From the start, we played some great football and defended well against a good Durkar side with all goalkeepers throwing some great shapes and saves. The boys kept their heads up and carried on for the full game giving their all! Match Report: 22.02.2026Friendly Match. Methley Lion U11s vs Wortley FC U11sA cracking test for the boys against Wortley FC, who play a division above us — and what a response we produced.Despite being without three first-team players, Methley stepped up in a huge way. A draw against higher-division opposition shows exactly where this squad is heading. We didn’t just compete — we matched them. From the first whistle, the teamwork was clear. The lads worked tirelessly for one another, pressed hard, and weren’t afraid to get on the ball and play. The opposition were strong and well-organised, and they made us work for every minute — but we showed just as much quality and determination.Defensively, we were outstanding. The back line battled, putting bodies on the line and staying switched on. Behind them, Henry in goal was spot on as always — commanding, reliable, and making big saves when it mattered.Going forward, the link-up play was excellent. The boys found each other well, trusted their ability, and used their individual skill to win the ball and drive us up the pitch. The movement and awareness across the team made the difference.Goals:Logan ⚽ ⚽ ⚽Freddie ⚽Bobby ⚽Assist: Bobby 🎯 Toby 🎯Man of the Match: Maksim ⭐ Parents Players: Logan ⭐ Message from the coach: A brilliant team performance against strong opposition. The hard work on the training ground is clearly paying off, and this result proves we’re ready for the next step up in competition.Proud of the lads 👏 ... See MoreSee Less

Titans v Woodkirk ValleyGreat to be back on the grass in decent conditions. Down to five players with the half-term break, the Titans had a tough task ahead. Woodkirk Valley brought the game to us in what turned out to be a bruising encounter.Rotating through positions to grab a breather, all the boys had a go at the back and were solid throughout. That left Corey with little to do in goal, but he stayed sharp and pulled off a couple of good saves when called upon.Harry worked his socks off from the first whistle and never stopped battling. His determination paid off when he drove into the box and was brought down to win a well-earned penalty. Showing real courage, he stepped up to take it himself under huge pressure. It wasn’t to be this time, but his confidence and willingness to take responsibility spoke volumes — a top effort and a performance full of heart.Riley found himself in the same situation after bagging two early goals and being a constant threat to the Woodkirk defence. He was hacked down in the box and made no mistake from the spot to complete his hat-trick and earn Parents’ Player of the Match. 🏆⚽️⚽️⚽️Oscar, as always, ran his blood to water and got himself on the scoresheet again with a classy finish. He took a well-earned rest at the back in unfamiliar territory and swept up everything that came his way. ⚽️Sonny put in a dominant display in the middle of the park, throwing his weight about and riding some tough tackles. Late in the game, he took a heavy challenge but recovered well, channelled his frustration brilliantly, and capped his performance with a fantastic goal to earn Coaches’ Player of the Match. 🏆⚽️A proper team effort in a tough, physical game — well done, Titans! 💪⚽ ... The U10s Whites hosted Crofton this morning with an excellent performance to see us progress to the next round of the cup. Fantastic team spirit and teamwork from every single player. We defended brilliantly and scored some fantastic goals. Another clean sheet for Riley in goal helped by some fantastic defending from Alex, Ethan and James. Cater and Jesse played some fantastic passes out of central midfield and some brilliant running and balls played in from Joe, Thomas and Aaron on the wings. Harry and Zach did a great job in the striker roles finding good positions, holding the ball up well and linking up with the midfielders. Some great goals scored including a hatrick for Thomas, 2 goals for Harry and one each for Zach and Joe. A real team performance epitomised by Harry's second goal which saw some fantastic passing starting at the back with a ball from one side of the pitch to Riley who switched it to the opposite side to start the attack. Player of the match to Zach for his hold up play and the goal of the match, captain to James for a solid defensive display and calm passing out of defence. Teammate of the match to Harry as chosen by the boys. Well done everyone. On to the next round ... See MoreSee Less

The Warriors played a cup game against a well organised Swillington team this morning and it proved to be a cracker of a game! The game started quickly with Teddy L firing wide in the early exchanges before finding the net following hard work closing down his opposition. Warriors remained on top as Reggie battled hard and James then hit the post and fired just wide in a blistering first quarter. The second quarter started evenly but Teddy G found the net with a trademark cool finish to extend the advantage before the Warriors had to defend for their lives as Swillington got on top. George made an unbelievable last ditch block for a goal bound effort coming from nowhere. The pressure told though as Swillington came back into it.Teddy L quickly restored the advantage following good work from Isaac who was passing well and busy in defence. The boys were running hard as George had a few lung busters to get the Warriors up the pitch. The half ended and the boys were playing well but knew they were going to have to dig deep. Then Teddy G did a delightful shimmy to get free and drove at the goal to hit a rasping shot just wide but he didnt have to wait long for a second that was a lovely finish.Henry K made a couple of timely interventions in the final quarter as the pressure built and Swillington were chipping away at the advantage. Then came the move of the match, as Teddy G popped the ball to George who zipped a ball into Teddy L who had a delightful inside touch to set Isaac away on goal who just got crowded out. The game was tight in the final moments, as tackled began to fly in and the competiveness nature of the game cranked up further.. the advantage had gone with 2 minutes to spare but Teddy L stepped up to send the crowd into delirium.. Goals: Teddy L and Teddy GParents player: Teddy G (every player got a vote)Coaches player: James A great game full of skill, determination and hard work. Well done everyone involved! ... U11 Girls Panthers were away at Horsforth this weekend in a League. We were short on numbers and missing our Gk, but the girls kitted up and got on with the job in hand. It was an end to end first half with both teams making chances, Horsforth initially took the lead from a magnificent corner, but the Panthers regrouped and within minutes equalised. The second half saw much of the same end to end battles, defence were having to work, Martha and Orla sweeping in and clearing the attacks and out stand in keeper Isla.S did some amazing saves to keep the score line down. With 10mins left on the clock and out of nowhere 2 long distance strikes from Captian and central defender Sophia gave the girls another win in the league. Well done to all the players for a great game of football. ⚽️ Opposition player of the match - SophiaCaptains player of the match - FranCoaches player of the match - Isla. S ... See MoreSee Less

The Blackhawks made a long trip to Clifton this morning for a game back on the grass...Blackhawks started at a fast pace and dominated the early exchanges with Alex at the centre of the dominance and could have easily given Blackhawks an early advantage with two chances slipping away.Eliza then got into the act from a deeper position as she went close before finally giving Blackhawks a deserved advantage. The game remained one sided in the early exchanges as Eliza and Alex continued to battle hard.. Eliza then had a magic minute as she stretched the advantage further with a quick fire brace.Half time came and the game changed as the slope on the pitch favoured the home team and the pitch became heavy and cut up.. the 6 girls had to dig deep and wow it was impressive.Evie was growing into the game and becoming influential as she bombarded up and down the right wing and eased the growing pressure, Edie played at the back for the full game and her positioning and tackling was exemplary throughout and Aria was the brains behind the operation as she tackled, swept up and passed beautifully to ensure an element of control given the tough conditions. The girls were tiring in the last quarter but regained the ascendancy late on as Eliza started to cause problems again. Maia then struck the post with a great shot that just missed. The game ended with the girls exhausted and proud of their efforts. We'll done to them on a deserved result that kept their momentum going.Leadership team: Edie and ElizaGoals: Eliza ⚽️⚽️⚽️Opposition player: ElizaParents: EvieCoaches: Edie and Aria ... MATCH REPORT — Methley Strikers U7s vs Normanton (Away)Methley Strikers travelled to Normanton and delivered one of their most complete performances of the season. From the opening whistle they pressed, passed, and powered their way through the game with confidence and togetherness. Goals came from all over the pitch, the work rate was outstanding, and every single player contributed to a dominant display.Below are the individual spotlights — and what a set of performances they were.PLAYER SPOTLIGHTSSebSeb set the tone early with relentless pressing high up the pitch, constantly winning the ball in dangerous areas. He grabbed two well‑deserved goals, including one from clever movement on a corner routine. Defensively he was his usual dependable self — calm, strong, and always in the right place.Jacob — Coaches’ Player of the MatchJacob got Methley off to a flyer with a first‑quarter hat‑trick. Three brilliant finishes, including a stunning free kick that had everyone applauding. His dribbling was sharp and confident throughout, gliding past defenders and creating chances. Fully earned the coaches’ award today.NathanielNathaniel looked hungry and full of belief, adding another composed finish to his growing goal tally. His movement into space and his marking were superb — showing real maturity and understanding of the game. A performance full of confidence.EllisEllis worked tirelessly for the team, closing players down and putting pressure on Normanton all over the pitch. His hard graft was rewarded with a brilliantly taken goal — clinical, calm, and leaving the keeper clutching at air. A proper team-first display.KyeKye delivered another consistently strong performance, putting in a huge shift and linking play superbly. He picked up multiple assists — genuinely hard to keep count — and capped it off with a well‑taken goal of his own. A crucial player in everything the Strikers did well.Albie — Parents’ Player of the MatchAlbie drove at Normanton with his trademark flair, always looking to bring teammates into play. A few early chances didn’t quite fall for him, but he showed brilliant resilience and kept pushing. His reward? Three clinical finishes and the parents’ vote for Player of the Match. A constant threat and fully deserving of the recognition.CharlieCharlie was a defensive warrior today — tackling hard, working tirelessly, and showing brilliant recovery speed. His standout moment came late on when Normanton broke through, only for Charlie to chase back and produce a superb last‑ditch tackle. Pure determination and heart.FinleyFinley put in a fantastic defensive shift, tackling hard and holding his position brilliantly to keep the team’s shape. He pushed forward looking for a goal and was unlucky on several occasions not to find the net. A crucial defender for the Strikers and a key part of today’s strong performance.SUMMARYMethley Strikers were simply too strong for Normanton today, combining clinical finishing with a real team ethic. The spread of parents’ votes — five different players receiving recognition — shows just how many contributed to the performance. Tougher tests lie ahead, and we’ll need to keep moving the ball quicker, but today was a brilliant example of what this group can do when they click.Well done, Strikers. A superb team display. ... Probably one of only a few league games taking place this weekend, but the U11 Girls Panthers were in action at Castleford Academy. The girls made a strong start against our opponents Durkar Devils, with the temperature only just above freezing they were keen to get moving. A couple of quick succession goals from Harper took the pressure off immediately and our super defensive lineup headed up by Captain Sophia kept the strong Durkar attacks to a minimum. Further goals from Methley’s striker Isla.S and midfielder Lauren put the girls in a comfortable lead. A great game of football to watch and considering it’s only the first season of playing for some of these girls, we can’t wait for what’s to come!Opposition’s player - Martha Captain’s player - Isla.C Coaches player - Lauren ... The u10 Panthers roared from the first whistle in a great game against Ossett Town Pearls, played at Outwood under a gorgeous blue sky (no rain!!).All nine contributed something special.
