THE BIGGEST ANNOUNCEMENT IN THE HISTORY OF METHLEY UNITED AFC

The Pride of Methley is getting a new home

We are incredibly proud to announce that Methley United AFC has officially signed a long-term partnership with Castleford Rugby Union, securing the use of the Pinfold Lane playing fields from August.

This is a huge step forward for our club — and an important one for the whole community.

Our recent member survey told us clearly that more pitches and better facilities in Methley were a priority. We listened, and this partnership goes a long way towards answering that.

Pinfold Lane gives us access to:

More playing space
Floodlights
Toilets and running water
Electricity
Kitchen facilities
Storage

There is work to do to improve the site over time, but the potential is enormous.

The blue area shows the land secured from August through our partnership.

The red area represents exciting longer-term opportunities we hope to explore as our vision develops.

We know an opportunity like this comes with responsibility. We are committed to working closely with local residents, Castleford Rugby Union, the FA and the council to make sure Pinfold Lane becomes a positive addition to the village.

To every volunteer, coach, player, parent, sponsor and supporter who has helped build this club — this is your achievement too.

More pitches. Better facilities. More football in Methley.

Our Open Age First Team traveled to Leeds City this week, securing a comfortable victory. The boys delivered a brilliant performance and took all 3 points without much drama.We completely dominated the first half, heading into the break with a commanding 6-0 lead. Ordish was unstoppable in the opening 45 minutes, netting a first-half hat-trick and providing an assist. James was also in fine form, scoring 2 goals to push the advantage, before Kieran Brewerton capped off the perfect half by beautifully converting a free kick to make it six.Leeds City tried to push back in the second half to get on the scoresheet, but our defense gave absolutely nothing away this time. James then sealed the performance by scoring the 7th and final goal of the match close to the whistle, matching Ordish to share the Man of the Match honors. ☀️⚽️ **METHLEY MAVERICKS LADIES | MATCH REPORT** ⚽️☀️On a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon, the Methley Mavericks dragged our middle-aged bodies out onto the unforgiving 3G of St Wilfrid’s to take on Monk Fryston – always a great, physical side and usually responsible for an excellent game of football… plus several scraped knees and at least one person questioning their life choices on Monday morning.We started with a **whopping nine players and absolutely no subs**, because apparently two of our ladies had decided that one game of football in a day simply wasn’t enough. Ang and Laura were therefore busy playing 11-a-side first, before hot-footing it across to join us at half-time. Because why wouldn’t you?The first half was so scrappy it could have come with a side of fish and chips.Methley struggled to get the ball down and play our usual football, but equally we weren’t letting Monk Fryston get much joy from their darting runs and long balls. Jem Cook, Leanne and Debs were superb at the back, clearing pretty much everything that came their way.Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the goalkeeper.After making one vaguely respectable clearance, the ball dropped beautifully to MF’s number 16, who absolutely smashed it home at the near post.Yes. **Near post.**The goalkeeper – who shall remain nameless except that she is writing this match report – reacted with all the speed and agility of a hungover sloth.**1–0 Monk Fryston.**(MF = Monk Fryston, by the way. I am absolutely not calling them names.)To our credit, heads didn’t drop and we worked tirelessly for the rest of the half. Ella and Pam covered approximately 87 miles between them in midfield, closing down everything, while Fiona and Lisanna made some brilliant runs through the MF defence.Lisanna also went *through* a player at least once. Possibly not technically in the coaching manual, but effective nonetheless.Alison caused plenty of problems up front too, battling for everything and trying to give us an outlet, but despite all the effort we just couldn’t quite find a way through.Then came half-time.We gave ourselves a good talking to, made a few tactical adjustments and – crucially – retained the Mavericks’ long-standing philosophy of **“let’s just have a lovely time.”**Enter Ang and Laura, fresh from already playing an entire other football match like a pair of absolute lunatics.The fresh legs definitely helped, but Monk Fryston weren’t exactly planning to roll over for us. It took a lot of battling, a lot of hard work and, frankly, **far too much action in and around the Methley penalty area for THIS goalkeeper’s liking.**Eventually though, we got the goal I think we deserved.Angela clearly decided enough was enough, picked the ball up, skipped past a collection of MF legs and absolutely smashed it home.**1–1.**Great finish.Celebrated like we’d just won the FA Cup.Possibly with more enthusiasm than is strictly sensible for people whose knees make noises when they stand up.From there it remained a real battle, with both teams working incredibly hard right to the end.Huge credit again to **Jem Cook**, who thoroughly deserved Player of the Match. She was an absolute rock in defence all afternoon, won challenge after challenge and even found the energy for a few surging runs into midfield.What I loved most today though was the team spirit.Going a goal down early could easily have knocked us, especially with such a small squad, but nobody stopped working, nobody stopped encouraging each other and we kept battling until we got something from the game.A very hard-earned **1–1 draw** and a point we were more than happy to take.Proud of every single one of us.**BOOM. 💥❤️⚽️** ... 🔴⚫ MATCH DAY 3 | WAKEFIELD AFC REDS 🆚 METHLEY UTD VIPERS Our Vipers made the short trip over to Middleton today to face Wakefield AFC Reds in what turned out to be a fantastic game of football! ⚽️From the opening whistle to the final whistle, it was non-stop, end-to-end action. There were some brilliant battles all over the pitch, some fantastic passing moves, great goals, and some absolutely outstanding saves! 🧤🔥The boys showed great energy, determination and teamwork, never giving up and continuing to play their football right until the very end.It was exactly the type of game we love to see at U10 level — competitive, exciting and played in the right spirit. 👏A massive well done to both teams for putting on such an entertaining game, and a big thank you to Wakefield AFC Reds for hosting us. 🤝Goals & AssistsGoals: Jack, Lucas, Max and Tomas.Assists: Jack, Lucas, Max and Tomas.Players of the MatchOpposition: Jack - Never stopped throughout the game, won plenty of battles and was a continuous threat throughout. MATCH REPORT - 20/09/2026Methley Lions U12s V Shadwell Whites U12sCup Game. It wasn’t our best game today, but the boys kept battling right until the final whistle. 💙The first half saw the opposition take an early lead, with a couple of defensive lapses allowing them to add to their score. Keeper made some great saves in goal to keep us in the game. 🧤👏The opposition added another from a corner before the game became a real back-and-forth battle. We started to find our feet, with some much better passing, defending and attacking play.⚽️ GOAL! Toby played a great ball through to Deacon, who finished brilliantly to get us on the scoresheet! 💙🦁We had a few more chances on target but unfortunately couldn’t find the back of the net.The second half was a much more even battle, with both teams fighting hard and the game going end-to-end. The opposition managed to add a couple more goals, but the boys never stopped pushing, battling and trying. 💪⚽️ GOAL! 🔴⚫️ Methley United U14 5–0 Sherburn White Rose U14s 🟡🔵After last week’s 9-0 win at Monk Fryston, Methley backed it up with another brilliant performance this morning against a tough Sherburn side, down a division from last season.In perfect football weather 🌧️ Methley were once again dominant from front to back. A confident start from Methley was rewarded on seven minutes when Oliver Y opened his account for the season. Some clever football created the opening, with Corey producing a fantastic through ball for Oliver to finish and put Methley 1-0 up.Sherburn then found their feet and held firm against an assertive Methley side, doing well to take the game into half-time with the score still 1-0. Take nothing away from the Methley defence though, who stood strong against everything Sherburn threw at them.A bright start to the second half saw Methley extend their lead just two minutes after the restart. Oliver Y’s shot was parried by the Sherburn keeper, and winger Charlie was on hand to tap home from close range to make it 2-0.Dylan then wrapped up the W on 44 minutes with a fine finish from a Seth corner, making it 3-0.Methley, continued to press, and on 53 minutes Archie capitalised on a defensive error, calmly putting the ball through the keeper’s legs to make it 4-0.With just two minutes remaining, Noah H got himself on the scoresheet with Methley’s fifth goal to round off another excellent team performance.A big shoutout to all the lads today. Seth and Noah H both put in a dogged shift in the middle. 🧤 Logan kept another clean sheet with a strong performance between the sticks.🛡️ Luca, Noah F, Jake and Lucas were also outstanding in defence, helping keep Sherburn at bay and securing another clean sheet. 🏆🏆 Oliver Y deservedly walked away with both the coaches’ Player of the Match and Sherburn’s opposition Player of the Match. An outstanding shift in midfield, constantly causing problems for Sherburn, creating opportunities and capping off his performance with his first goal of the season.Two from two for Methley. Methley United U11 Reds Match Report ❤️🖤A game that brought the rain, but also plenty of grit, determination and hard work from the boys today! 💪⚽The boys turned up raring to go and defended brilliantly from the very first minute. Riley in goal was playing like a man possessed, throwing himself at everything and making some fantastic saves! 🧤🔥 He was well protected by a solid defensive unit of Harry, Jax, Zaine and Harison, who worked tirelessly to keep the opposition at bay.In midfield, Danny, Oliver, Timmy, Bo and Aaron worked their socks off throughout the game. They tracked back when needed, battled for every ball and also did a great job of driving the team forward. They linked up really well and, most importantly, were selfless on the ball, always looking for the right pass and trying to bring their teammates into play. 👏This was a massive improvement from last week, and it was brilliant to see the boys putting things we’ve been working on into practice. It was a thriller from the u11 Panthers away at Guiseley Lionesses this morning. The girls were ready to go from the whistle and their explosive start and early pressure put them in good stead.Against a strong team, the Panthers still had to work hard and again they looked like a solid unit with every player contributing something special. They really are living up to their adopted mantra of side before self. Goalscorers were Aurora (hat trick!!), Alice and Annie, and Penny did wonders in goal. Shout outs to Alice for covering multiple positions and adapting quickly to them all and Elle’s energy in midfield allowing us to quickly switch play. Morning all,Here we are again — another Saturday and, hopefully, another enjoyable weekend of football for all our junior and senior teams. ❤️⚽️Please let’s make sure we show respect on the sidelines — coaches and parents alike — so that this behaviour is reflected by our players. Remember, this is grassroots football, not the World Cup! It needs to be fun, enjoyable, and, most importantly, the environment on and around the pitch needs to be safe and positive for all our players and officials.There have already been so many issues reported in the first few weeks, both from the leagues and from other clubs, which is really sad to see. As I said in the coaches/committee meeting before the season started, we will come across some really good teams, coaches, parents and players, and unfortunately we will also come across some who don’t conduct themselves in the way we would expect.Sadly, we can’t control what other people do, but the one thing we can always control is how we behave and how we react.When things become unpleasant, it’s easy to react in the wrong way, but as a club — and as everyone who represents Methley United AFC — we should always try to do the right thing, regardless of what is happening around us.It’s not always easy, but we have a great reputation in grassroots football, and we all have a part to play in making sure Methley stands out — not because of the number of trophies we win, but because of the way our teams, coaches, players and parents behave and conduct themselves every week.So please enjoy your weekend, support your teams, encourage the players and let’s continue to make Methley United AFC stand out for all the right reasons.Let’s be the shining light that helps bring positivity back into grassroots football. ❤️⚽️❤️Have a great weekend, everyone! ... ⚽ MATCH REPORT ⚽ Horsforth JFC Pythons vs Methley Utd Vipers 🐍 Second Snake-Off of the Season! 🐍A Sunday morning trip to Adel today for the Vipers against a strong Horsforth team! What a game it was!
