THE BIGGEST ANNOUNCEMENT IN THE HISTORY OF METHLEY UNITED AFC
The Pride of Methley is getting a new home
We are incredibly proud to announce that Methley United AFC has officially signed a long-term partnership with Castleford Rugby Union, securing the use of the Pinfold Lane playing fields from August.
This is a huge step forward for our club — and an important one for the whole community.
Our recent member survey told us clearly that more pitches and better facilities in Methley were a priority. We listened, and this partnership goes a long way towards answering that.
Pinfold Lane gives us access to:
- More playing space
- Floodlights
- Toilets and running water
- Electricity
- Kitchen facilities
- Storage
There is work to do to improve the site over time, but the potential is enormous.
The blue area shows the land secured from August through our partnership.
The red area represents exciting longer-term opportunities we hope to explore as our vision develops.
We know an opportunity like this comes with responsibility. We are committed to working closely with local residents, Castleford Rugby Union, the FA and the council to make sure Pinfold Lane becomes a positive addition to the village.
To every volunteer, coach, player, parent, sponsor and supporter who has helped build this club — this is your achievement too.
More pitches. Better facilities. More football in Methley.

Woodkirk Valley Reserves 1-2 Methley United (1ST)![]()

What a way to start the season! 🚀 Our Open Age 1st team secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against last season's runaway Division 5 champions, Woodkirk.![]()

The game started a bit slow for the lads. Just 10 minutes in, Woodkirk took the lead after a deflected shot from outside the box caught our keeper off guard. But the response was immediate. A few tactical changes from Adam completely turned the tide. Methley dominated the rest of the half, pinning Woodkirk in their own box and even hitting the woodwork. Unfortunately, the Woodkirk keeper pulled off some brilliant saves to keep it 1-0 at the break.![]()

We kept the pressure dialled up in the second half, and the breakthrough finally came! Marius Chiorescu levelled the scoring with a brilliant flick from a great low cross by Kieran Brewerton. 🎯![]()

Woodkirk threw everything they had left at us, but they got caught out on the counter. Last year’s MVP, James Clayson, who absolutely bossed the wing all game, whipped a dangerous low cross into the 5-yard box. The keeper couldn't hold it, and our striker, Ordish, was there to smash home the rebound! ⚽🔥 2-1 up with 20 minutes to go!![]()

Woodkirk pushed hard for an equaliser, but our defensive wall held firm. New signing Jake Palma-Brook and Keelan Woods were absolute rocks at the back, giving the opposition absolutely nothing. 🧱![]()

U8 Warriors welcomed Colton for the first home game of the season.![]()

It turned out to be a fast and frantic game throughout with little let up in the pace throughout.![]()

Isaac was captain for the day and started the game marshaling the defence, the 1st quarter caught the warriors a little cold as Colton started very quickly.![]()

The warriors woke up in the 2nd quarter and started to battle for the ball with more ferocity to match there opponents. G made a number of great saves as Warriors hung in there. They started to carry a goal threat as Henry S started to probe there defence. James was playing like he had never been away and set the tone for a spirited fightback with his relentless running and tackling.![]()

The 3rd quarter brought some lovely link up play with Teddy L growing into the game and George causing problems with some brilliant runs down the left.![]()

Henry K was starting to get a round the pitch to thwart Colton's attack and the game was end to end and very even. Reggie was growing into the game and having an impact in defence and going forward.![]()

The 4th quarter briefly threatened a come back as Teddy G clipped one in the top corner after a sublime passing by Teddy L. Teddy G then turned provider as Henry S cuddled one over the line. Could they?? Surely not?? Nope, Colton quickly got back on the front foot as the game came to an end with the boys exhausted as they gave it their all. ![]()

🐍 First Snake-Off of the Season! 🐍![]()

A proper season-opener, with both sides feeling each other out in a cagey first 12 and a half minutes. End-to-end stuff in the middle of the park, but neither Vipers nor Cobras could find that breakthrough.![]()
As legs loosened up, the game really opened up in the second quarter — end-to-end action and a flurry of goals as both sides pushed forward looking for the edge.![]()
Into the second half and our Vipers turned up the tempo. Weeks of hard training on the running ground paid off, with energy levels holding strong. Another tight battle followed, both teams throwing everything forward and both keepers pulling off some outstanding saves to keep it close. 🧤🔥![]()
Into the final quarter, the game opened up yet again. A penalty against us was superbly saved by Joel to keep the Vipers in it! 🙌![]()

We started the game really positively, playing some great football and putting plenty of pressure on the opposition. ![]()
Deacon opened the scoring after some great play through the middle before adding his second with a fantastic strike from distance. 🔥![]()

Bobby then got himself on the scoresheet after some brilliant attacking play, making it 3–0 and putting us firmly in control. 👏![]()

We’ve been working hard in training on playing the ball out from the back, and for the most part, it worked really well today. The boys showed great confidence in possession and worked hard to keep our shape throughout the game.![]()

We played 3-2-3 formation today, and I felt it gave us much more balance. We looked more comfortable, maintained our shape better and were able to build our play more effectively.![]()

Another massive positive was the way we utilised our substitutes. When changes were made, there was very little difference in the standard of football being played. That shows the depth we have within the squad, which is a real positive heading into what will be a tough season. 💪![]()

At the back, the boys worked really hard as a unit. We got stuck into some great tackles, defended solidly and Henry made some excellent saves when called upon. 🧤![]()

We did lose a little bit of control in the second half when GT Sports Girls changed things up and overloaded the midfield. However, I thought the boys dug in brilliantly as a team unit, defended really well and showed great character to manage the game.![]()

The opposition did manage to pull one back, but the boys stayed composed and saw the game through.![]()

Henry then provided a great assist for Faeley, who finished well to make it 4–1, with the boys continuing to work hard for each other. 🙌![]()

What a fantastic start to the season for the u11s Whites this morningas we hosted Hall Green. A full squad so we had to make quite a lot of changes throughout the game but we played some lovely football at times and supported each other really well. We looked good in defence with Ethan, Alex, Joshua, and James making some good challenges and all covering each other well and looking confident on the ball. Harry, Zach and Carter were composed in the central defensive midfield role moving the ball out of defence well to start the attack. Riley made some good saves when the ball did get through the defence and his distribution set up several of our attacking moves. The attacking 4 of Aaron, Joe, Jesse and Thomas, supported by Carter and Harry, put some lovely passes together and it was really encouraging to see their link up play so early in the season. Aaron's positioning up front was perfect getting him 2 goals, contender for goal of the season from Thomas with a great run down the wing cutting in to put the ball in the net, Joe's passing and moving was excellent and Jesse's footwork put Messi to shame! A special mention to Joshua on his league debut. He looked confident winning the ball and playing some good passes out to the midfield. 2 goals each from Joe, Aaron and Thomas with assists from Aaron, Jesse and Thomas. Player of the match to Zach for his composure in finding the right pass every time. Captain to Thomas for his fantastic attacking play. We are looking forward to a brilliant season!

In November 2022 their lives changed forever when they lost Dazzler, a fantastic husband and father and an unbelievable helpful and kind coach who gave everything to Methley United 🙏![]()

This Saturday the 5th September is our annual Methley Vets v West Yorkshire Fire Service charity game in memory of former coach Darren Abrams who sadly passed away unexpectedly in November 2022.![]()

‘Dazzler’ was a popular character within the club and his efforts during the season and in the gala events will never ever be forgotten.![]()

Fantastic feedback for our u13 girls -Raiders today in their first friendly of the season against Ovenden wildcats today. ![]()
We travelled the 45 mins (ish) over to Halifax where we were met with a great bunch of girls with some fantastic technical abilities. Both sets of coaches praising their opponents with some great goals and fantastic strikes and saves. ![]()
The results didn’t go our way today but it was the start of something special with some new girls joining the team and settling in perfectly.![]()

Today ovenden west riding hosted methley raiders. The game was played in high spirits with end to end action from both teams showing amazing football. ![]()
Both teams playing respectfully together if a foul was committed going on consoling the player and constantly checking on one and another. Both coaches showing nothing but praise and positive support on the sideline and a massive support from both teams parents. ![]()

Seacroft played 4 leagues above us last season and next season they are 1 league above![]()

Tigers moved the ball well and dominated large parts of the game, although Billy was called into action a few times and was outstanding in his first game back after 18 months out through injury![]()
