Methley United U14s girls 2 v 1 Crofton u14sMatch report by U14s player BeccaFor the third game of the season, Methley U14s had another home fixture against Crofton Wolves Blue, and they were hoping for another 3 points after last week's game against Horsforth. Methley started strong, with several early chances but Crofton were strong at the back and managed to keep Methley out. Methley soon took the lead from a good run by Ailie leading to a cross and a good goal from Lexie. Only ten minutes later, Esmae made it 2-0 with an unstoppable goal. In the second half, Crofton got one back but Methley remained strong and the match ended 2-1, the girls earning a well-deserved 3 points. ... See MoreSee Less

Great game today for Methley Vipers U8. Some standout performances but the way they worked as a team throughout the 40 mins was great to see. Alverthorpe keeper was our player of the match for them, who played an absolute blinder in only his second game for them.Henry was the opposition player of the match for his goalkeeping and general game play. H really used the drills we worked on in training on Wednesday to great effect.Jack was our player of the match, for capping off a great performance on and off the ball with an absolute peach of a goal. Our game also had goals from Noah 3 and Tomas 1 ... Methley Mavericks U7’s vs Hall Green UtdWhere to start, proud of the lads is an understatement, come on leaps and bounds over the summer, and a very competitive game today, played in great spirit by all.Eithan scoring our first inside 5 minutes, a tidy finish as a reward for the first of many of his slaloms at the opposition defence.Harrison bagging our second, rapidly becoming our fox in the box with another calm finish when the ball broke loose.Rohan with our third, very composed on the ball all morning and got his goal in the second half.8 worthy MoM’s today, but Eithan takes it this week for his determination and engine carrying us forward on many occasions and great work rate coming back to defend.🦁 🔴 ⚪️ ... U14s Boys 3 - 1 WheldrakeOur u14s boys welcomed wheldrake to Stade de Church Lane yesterday for what could be described as a statement of intent. We know what wheldrake bring to any game, and that's hard work, dedication and a decent front line that any team should be worried about. The game kicked off and again, we started off strong, which is becoming quite the norm this season, and we controlled the opening parts of the game. We asked the lads to not play individually but to be a team player throughout the game as there was the Leeds United Scout there today watching us, and we did just that.Whilst I praised wheldrake earlier on, our front 3 of, Cash, Albie and Kodi is arguably the best in all 3 divisions, pace, flair, attacking intent and consistent goals from all 3 tells you their a force to be reckoned with. Cash opened the scoring with a lovely break from the left wing, slotting past their keeper, made us relax more on the ball, playing it back to Ozzy and recycling the ball wherever necessary. Another break down the left, where Kodi was this time, and he coolly placed it in the far corner to make it 2 nil at half time.We told the lads that they will come out fighting in the 2nd half and to step it up further and keep the pressure on. We did that for the entirety of the game but a lapse of concentration and wheldrake pulled one back. We didn't let that get to us as, within 5 minutes, we were back with a 2 goal lead when OC got on the score sheet with a lovely goal smashed into the net from in the box. Full time, 3-1 and our unbeaten start to the season continues.Cash ⚽️Kodi ⚽️OC ⚽️Once again, thanks for the support to the parents, Referree for officiating and the respect shown on the pitch from both teams.Player sponsors5 Towns RoofingJordan Safety Freedom 2 Dance Ltd Dance Ltd KWSJB Electrics Electrics 1st class roofing and scaffoldingWilsons SGarforth Securityh Security GH TilingZest CateringLovely LashesOne Stop StoresPlease go and give their pages a like and follow, let's help the smaller businesses out like they help us out 💙🤍💛 ... Lovely day for football yesterday for U9 Blacks, we dominated the first 2 quarters and battled through the last 2 as our opposition upped their game. We were passing great, creating chances, defending amazingly and Clarke (goalkeeper) stopped some great attempts throughout the match! MOTM - Ollie - Best game in a while, tracked back without diving in, cleared loads of balls being last man which would have resulted in goals and fearless in tackles as always! Parents player - Elliot - Had more confidence today, ran with the ball loads, passing great, was strong in tackles using his body for strength! Goals - Leighton 🔥⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️ ... An away trip for the U9 Panthers this morning, playing Horsforth Tornados. The girls have been focussing on positioning in training given the step up in pitch size this year, and it showed today. They’ve made great strides in making space rather than crowding the ball. The coaches are encouraging them to shout for the ball more - they aren’t usually a quiet bunch so that should come!! Noticeably, they look increasingly dangerous from corners and were applying real pressure in response to non-retreat goal kicks. ⚽️⚽️⚽️ Three goal scorers today. Annie pounced early with speed taking the opponents by surprise; Olivia put the cherry on a brilliant passage of play with a confident strike; and Aurora dominated a goal mouth scramble to hit the back of the net! Shout out to Ruby for her outfield determination today and for a fantastic quarter in goal too. Well done 👏 Elle was the Girl of the Game after a phenomenal time bossing the defence. Excellent positioning, never took her eye of the ball and her no-nonsense tackling all looked very natural 🌟Annie was the parents’ player today after an energetic performance. Lots of time on the ball plus total desire to win tackles and sprints to the ball 🌟Well done Panthers ❤️🖤❤️ ... See MoreSee Less

🦅 Under 9s Girls Hawks report 🦅 ⭐️ We enjoyed a fantastic match with Pontefract Wild Cats in glorious conditions this morning - something of a bounce-back match and our girls responded in style! So much to enjoy in today’s game and the positivity on show before, during and after was sensational. 🏆 VIOLET was our Parents’ Player of the Match today after a brilliantly energetic and intelligent performance. And a long-range goal anyone would be proud of!🏆 BETHANY won the Coaches’ award on this occasion for her expert dribbling, passing and awareness, but also some serious resilience when faced with all the many challenges that football can provide. Some great decision-making all round today - well done! ⚽️ SASSKIA was nominated by the opposition players after a stunning game including a memorable goal smashed in off the crossbar!🙌 Brooke also scored a fine goal and soldiered on despite a sore ankle, Iyla continues to grow as a footballer and her smile lights up any Saturday morning. Freya’s fancy footwork was sparkling at times, while Phoebe and Maria both worked super-hard for the team. Enjoy the weekend! ... See MoreSee Less

Methley Blackhawks competed in a local Derby as Rothwell Boars made the short trip across to Church Lane. The game was played at a frantic pace from the beginning as both teams threatened and chances were created.Blackhawks executed passing moves from defence really well and were starting to get on top but couldn't take advantage of this. Rothwell then started to up the intensity and took advantage just before half time. Rothwell continued on top into the second half as Metheky worked really hard to match the physical challenge set by Rothwell.. Rothwell continued in the ascendancy until the final 10 minutes when Methley ripped the crowd into a frenzy and played at a rip roaring pace... they got stronger and stronger but time was against the them.An unbelievable game that was very even throughout and played in an amazing spirit from both sides. As the game ended it was smiles all round from everyone in another thrilling morning of actionLeadership team: Alex (C), Isla (VC)Parents player: ElizaOpposition player: ElizaGoalscorer: ElizaGO BLACKHAWKS ... U12 Whites vs. Ulleskelf Eagles (Cup Preliminary Round)It was a challenging day for the U12 Whites as we faced Ulleskelf Eagles, a team from the division above, in the preliminary round of the cup.We entered the match full of optimism, knowing that if we played to our potential, we stood a good chance of getting a result. The team started brightly and competed well for the first 20 minutes. Our defense was solid, and the players worked tirelessly, both pushing forward and tracking back. We stuck to our positions and looked to create opportunities at every chance. However, the quality and drive of our opposition began to show, and despite our efforts, a flurry of well-taken goals by the Eagles just before halftime put us on the back foot.During the halftime team talk, the focus was on keeping our heads up, enjoying the game, and continuing to apply the lessons we’ve been working on in training. The second half saw another strong start from us, with some excellent forward passes that created a few promising chances for our attackers. At the other end, Lucas made some fantastic saves, and our defenders did a great job of catching the opposition offside on multiple occasions. We held firm for about another 20 minutes before the pressure from Ulleskelf told, and they scored a few more goals in quick succession with some clinical finishing. It wasn’t all one-way traffic, though, as Jake grabbed a well-deserved consolation goal with a brilliant finish from a tight angle, giving us something to celebrate.Overall, the team can be proud of their performance. It was a tough match, but we rose to the challenge and can take plenty of positives into the next game.Coaches' Player of the Match: Lucas, for an outstanding display in goal, making crucial saves and distributing the ball well.Parents' Player of the Match: Oliver, for his determined and creative play in midfield, along with a strong, composed performance when moved to defense. ... Methley U14s 13 vs 1 Monk Fryston - league cupWe welcomed Monk Fryston down to Savile Park yesterday in the first round of the league cup. Another strong start by the lads, we were creating chances left right and centre but fryston held their own for a good 15 minutes until we broke the deadlock, quickly followed by another.A cheap free kick we gave away on the edge of the box and what a free kick fryston player took and smashed it in the bottom corner, no chance for Ozzy in the net, don't think meslier would've saved it! We kicked off after their goal, their tales up, only to dampen their spirits with another 2 quick fire goals. 4-1 HT.2nd half and we told the lads to relax on the ball, use the pitch, play for each other and more importantly, play as a team. They listened and executed it to perfection and came away with a resounding result sending us through to the next round of the cup, the same one we got to the final in last year!Thank you to parents, coaches and the referee for your support.Cash ⚽️⚽️⚽️Albie ⚽️⚽️⚽️Olly F ⚽️Oscar ⚽️Oliver P ⚽️OC ⚽️Paddy ⚽️⚽️ECB ⚽️Special thanks to our player sponsors this season, Freedom 2 dance LtdJordan Safety Services LtdGarforth SecurityKW BuildersZest CateringLovely LashesGH Tiling1st Class roofing and scaffolding servicesGo and give their page a like and follow, let's help the small businesses who are kind to us. Methley United u11's VS Wakefield City juniors Continuing to make sure that we challenge ourselves by refusing to play on level ground the Methley Lionesses descended en masse to Wakefield City today for a tense, end to end game with chances and drama aplentyA cagey start for both teams saw some missed passes and nervous shuffling from players and alike! Amelie had an incredible first quarter, Wakefield made a good start and were starting to build through the middle as the slopey pitch was making wing play look tricky early on. Amelie was absolutely everywhere, disrupting there players and snuffling out their attack. Their technical players found it hard with Ams shutting them down, every time being tough but incredibly fair in the way she pressured. Possibly one of the best Amelie performances today, was a brilliant effort, and showed her character after tacking a hefty whack to her head too. Well done Ams!Everly started the game on the wing, with the pitch making things tough for both wingers, she followed instructions well from the tall linesman who looked remarkably like Phil and was great to see Ev hustling for the ball and poking the ball forwards in a tough and congested midfield. Much like her team-mate she demonstrated that she can shrug off an injury after taking what looked like a thump to the top of her foot - well done EvNancy Nancy Nancy! Nancy saved us on several occasions ( again ) with her brilliant football brain, she runs at an angle to cut off opposition who have made a break, but then when she gets there she’s so smart with where she stands and then times her tackles so well to just pinch the ball of their toe - it must be a nightmare to play against as she makes it look really easy. Just dont think she put a foot wrong today, fantastic stuff from Nancy and then pops up to take her goal chance superbly - 10/10 NancyOrlaith constantly gets praise from us for her engine, she is a proper grafter and takes on kids much bigger and tougher with not a shred of fear or hesitation - she had her work cut out today, she took a fair amount of punishment on that field, and just keeps on trucking, skipping through late challenges, menacing their midfielders and found some great passes to dig Methley out of a mess that they found themselves in at times today. Great assist too from Orlaith at a critical time in the game - ace work , brilliant effot and graft (as always )from OrlaithFlo was zipping down that wing and delivering cross after cross. 2 assists and a goal was belting, throughly deserving her parents player award. She’s really grown to love that wing position and is growing more confident each week as she darts off on those runs at blazing speed. “ Afterburners Flo, go on! “ came the roar from Phil as Flo took off from her own half - ill never get bored of seeing that! - A cracking goal too picking the perfect spot to aim at and zip through the middle of a busy penalty area - well done FlossA very tense game at times, with end to end football and their number 9 was outstanding in seizing any opportunity that Methley presented, but luckily for this Methley side we have the best shot stopper in the Division. Liliana, you should be super proud of your saving today, you cut a frustrated figure at times, we know you want to score goals now and then but my goodness would results be different if you weren’t as good as you are in goal. Harper was clean through, Wakefield supporters knew what was coming, their coach was ready to celebrate, the ref was grinning to see it, they knew Harper would finish this… bang! A rifle of a shot unleashed at the last minute…. Lil has no right to get there but does, brilliantly saving the shot to stop Wakefields momentum and put us back into a buoyant mood. Was a HUGE moment in the game - well done Liliana, that was a terrific performanceEffster! How that smiley girl from those early games has turned into a really solid defender who seems to be brimming with confidence. She’s really getting the hang of reading an attack and using her pace in bursts to cut out attacks. Loved her decision making on several occasions when she calmly side-footed it out to spoil a promising Wakefield break - a very solid day out in the park for Effie - brilliant stuffMolly had another sensational performance in a Red shirt today. She seems to really be proud to play for Methley and work for her teammates, she popped up at several moments when we thought all was lost to lever a player off the ball, take a Quick Look and fire off a rocket of a pass upfield to not only relieve the pressure but to put her team instantly onto the front foot. She makes it look really easy and it just isn’t. Her first touch and decision making was spot on, combine that with her effort to work hard and we are all so impressed by the player that she already is. She didn’t seem the slightest bit phased to be taken off to give her a rest, she sat smiled, chatted and then when called upon was up and straight over to deliver a standout end to the game - her skills are top notch but her attitude is very very impressive. Well done Molly very mature performance today, some belting goals and a well deserved award too.Sooooo good to have Evie Beane back with the Rebels today. We rate Evie really highly for her ability to scrap and battle with tough opponents and she delivered that in spades today. On two occasions she stood strong and went shoulder to shoulder with their strongest player and came off best - just wonderful to see, she will deliver wherever she is, but she seems to be growing into that attacking wide role, and was unlucky not to bag a goal today. She led from the front when we needed a player to step up and switch on today, and we are so thankful that she did. Couple of nice passes in there too! - Brilliant to have Evie back and know she was keen to do well after missing the opener, - she did really well ! Connie steps up to Micky almost immediately today and wanted to be in defence. We dont get it too often, but she adores defending and shows so much determination covering the field and making tackles. It’s easy to forget that Connie joined us relatively late, she slotted in and its like she always been there. If Connie is chasing down an attacker id back her to make the difference and win it back for us. She was under pressure a few times, today particularly in the second half, a tricky clearance was quickly put behind her with no drama and off she goes again on the hunt for more players to tackle. Really great to have Connie working hard for the side and she’s quietly and confidently getting better every week - well done Con!Evie Mae’s game sadly ended a bit earlier than anyone wanted today as she had to take to the grass after a painful looking injury.. and what was she doing when got injured? Being positive and looking to go towards goal as always! Evie loves being at the heart of the action - we have to remind her which position she is playing in sometimes as she just constantly wants to be involved and either get the ball back or drive it forward and we saw loads of it today! Well done Evie, get well soon, we need your positivityReally impressed by Scarlottes’s efforts on the pitch today, she’s still working on a few things but she shows bags of heart and can absolutely shift when she needs to! She can be quite quiet on the side of the pitch but soon as she’s on it im looking up and seeing her absolutely harass their attackers, swarming them and making every effort to get that ball back. A great moment for me was when she banged the ball the wrong way down the pitch, then showed amazing determination to have two or three goes at their players, somehow win the ball back and let off an absolute rocket of a shot that lifted the whole bench off their feet. It absolutely looked like she’d found the back of the net from where we were stood. All the players make mistakes at times, but that desire to make amends was so good to see from Scarlotte today - deserved her award, well done!Bella!!! - rocking a new hairstyle but the same funny and ruthless Bella, she was phenomenal today, we spread the awards around as best we can but should have dug an extra one out for Bella today, a hat-trick against a tough team is a heck of an achievement. Really cagey start from all players on both sides today, but Bella really grew into the game, I was incredibly impressed by the high ball that Bella took down from Molly with a deft touch, then onto her right boot to fire just wide. Goal would have been nice, but that first touch was marvellous. Bella continues to be a star and delivered a brilliant performance for her team today - so pleased to see her enjoying her football and working hard. Well done Bella - outstanding effort Daisy is one of the players who seems to absorb everything the coaches ask her to do and then just executes it. We know Daisy is rock solid at the back and very reliable but we needed her to do some different things today. One of their really strong midfielders was starting to find more time on the ball and began to exert her influence on the game, firing balls upfield for Harper.. the tide was turning, clear instructions given to Daisy to move up into midfield and simply stop her by closing her down early, not giving her space to look up and cut off the passes going to Harper. And that’s exactly what Daisy did, no fuss, no doubts, just absolutely nailed it. Really really chuffed with what Daisy did for us today. Solid, positive and never complains, absolute role model is Daisy.A tough, cagey game with some real flashpoints - but Methley agreat all round team performanceGo Rebels! ... See MoreSee Less
