U9 Match ReportAmaranth Blacks vs Methley VipersToday our U9 Vipers made the short trip to Cross Gates to face Amaranth Blacks. It was definitely a game of 2 halves and this was mainly due to the wind. The game started off a tight affair, with both teams unable to break the deadlock with both keepers making some great saves. The game opened up a bit more halfway through the first half with Amaranth on top, scoring some good goals. In the second half, the game changed, we got to grips with the conditions and scored some great goals including an absolute worldy from Noah,. The defence stepped up too with some solid defending, the wingers and midfield made some good passes/through balls, and both keepers making excellent saves. The stand out, a triple save from Joel.Goals today;HarrisonNoah.Assists; TomasPlayers of the Match;Opposition: was given to Joel, who had one of his best performances in goals today, making loads of saves including the triple save.Coaches: was given to Noah, for his goals and great play throughout the game. ... Ebor U11s vs Methley Tigers U11sWell what an end to a fabulous season, 3 words todayGutsDeterminationAttitudeBilly - an end of season cameo? No. For those who don't know, Billy has been struggling with his leg, knee, heels for some time. He's trained through pain and done that with a smile on his face. Deserved to play today, could have just turned up, but in typical Billy fashion, he threw himself into everything during a really feisty game, winning the Opposition MOM in the process. Proud.Oliver - a weekend of great football for the lad. Comfortable at right back and some equally big saves, never say die attitude and looks really settled in the Tigers.Zac - If you need someone to set a tone in a game that needs physicality, he's your man. He listens, works hard and has developed so much this season. Integral.Archie - slow start to the game, followed by the Archie we all know and love. Tenacious, hard working and looks at home playing a year up. Hawk - very unfortunate not to walk away with MOM, pipped at the last. Looks at home at CDM. Good on the ball, reads it well, covers his defense. Really proud of him lately. If he cuts the laps out he will be a superstar. Wonderful free kick to start the comeback too!Isaac - me and Isaac have had a few heart to hearts lately. Finding it hard to recapture his goal scoring form, but forever turning in massive performances. Told him it will come, and he never stops trying, so unlucky not to score but absolutely deserved the Coaches MOM. Reuben - another one that I've had a few private chats with. Talented, with belief in himself comes a very clever footballer and today he showed exactly that, coupled with dogged determination. It doesn't go unnoticed when him and Hawk battled to win a ball back that we nearly scored from. Brilliant stuff.Charlie - his biggest critic at times, needs a rocket up his arse, but when it clicks, it clicks in a big way. Unplayable on his day, unstoppable right foot, and today a tidy goal with the left. After a sulk, some great battling down the right with Isaac too.Leo - looking at home in the Tigers, plays safe when needed, runs, tackles and in a really tough game today, stood firm and tall, quality stuff from a lad improving week by week.Jacob - when this boy concentrates he's a problem, he runs more than he ever has and has great feet, a little bit of confidence to shoot more and the goals will come again. Another great performance. Logan - played really well when on the pitch but suffered an injury and was extremely tired to return. Another great season nonetheless. I wanted to save Parker til last.Parker - no MOM today, but another who ran them close. Wiped out by a disgusting challenge and came off after receiving studs in his abdomen. I've chatted to him before about these injuries, are you injured etc and today he really impressed me. He was genuinely hurt, clearly, but wanted to come back on. He came on, and scored what can only be described as one of the best goals you'll ever see at this level. Awkward angle, 25 yards out, thundered in off the crossbar, he enters the race for goal of the season with one of the last kicks. So proud today, and I hope you all are too. There is no way this group of boys do this last season. They are together, they are a team and they hunt for each other. Match report U7 Titans v Glen Juniors.Great performance by the boys today given we only had 5 players and the best performance of the season by far. A cold windy day with a pitch with a real slope but the boys battled well against it and made the best of it when with it. Everyone apart from keeper Corey played in every position and adapted really well. Never stopped running even without a rest.Man of the match - ALL of them so they rightfully shared it (see photo) @👏👏- Goalkeeper Corey made some great saves as usual and just gets better every game - took one piledriver into the rib cage and he never flinched. - Harry didn’t miss as tackle and his passing was first class. His goal was like watching Messi as he beat several defenders before slotting it into the corner of the net. - Riley with a hat trick showed his strength in his running and gave their keeper a lot to do. Took several heavy challenges too but bounced back well. - Oscar really did well especially as he left his favourite right wing position to play up front, at the back where he did really well, and on the left. - Sonny is really coming on and has almost mastered the drag back as well as his running with the ball and passing. A great team performance that sent everyone home very happy ... See MoreSee Less

The u7 Warriors welcomed Garforth FC for what promised to be there biggest challenge of the season so far.. as always the boys stood up to the challenge and produced a brilliant performance The first quarter was tentative as Garforth passed the ball around but the Warriors stuck at it and held on until a nightmare last 30 seconds saw them at a significant disadvantage. The 2nd quarter was more even as Henry S injected much needed energy and Reggie and George kept pressure on their opposition. Isaac made some timely interventions but Garforth showed their class and extended the advantage. The 3rd quarter resulted in Warriors more than matching their opposition as Teddy L covered every blade of grass, Teddy G probed in front of goal and James battled relentlessy. The quarter ended in a stalemateThe final quarter was a slow start but the final 5 minutes saw an unlikely come back happen.. Isaac was solid at the back and Henry S finished a chance, Reggie popped up twice and the comeback was on. Unfortunately the clock was against the Warriors but a brilliant show of resilience and determination. The game was played in a great spirit throughout. A very enjoyable morning of football.Parents player: ReggieOpposition player: JamesGoals: Henry S and Reggie ... See MoreSee Less

MATCH REPORT – Methley Strikers U7s vs Leeds AjaxA lively morning at home saw the Strikers take on a strong Leeds Ajax side in a game full of twists, turns, tackles, and trademark Methley spirit. The boys showed real character across all four quarters, battling hard, playing for each other, and producing some brilliant football along the way.Below is the full breakdown, including individual spotlights for every player who pulled on the shirt today.⭐ PLAYER SPOTLIGHTSSeb – The General at the Back (and the Front!)Seb was immense today. Strong in the tackle, brave in the duels, and constantly organising those around him. He even had a spell further forward where he caused absolute chaos for the Ajax defence. A real leader in this team—his presence lifts everyone.Finley – The Positioning ProFinley put in a really intelligent performance. He held his positions superbly, always scanning for his man and stepping in with well-timed tackles. When he won it, he looked forward early and played positive passes. A really mature showing.Ellis – Heart, Bravery, and Pure DeterminationWhat a shift from Ellis. Took a big bump on the head but refused to let it stop him—came back on and delivered his strongest performance yet. He ran at defenders, attacked space, and played with real confidence. A proper team performance and fully deserving of the Team Mate Award.Albie – The Dribble King and Hat-Trick HeroAnother powerhouse display from Albie. He worked tirelessly from start to finish, pressing, battling, and driving forward with his trademark dribbles. Capped it all off with a brilliant hat-trick, but it was his work rate that really shone. Fully earned Coaches Player of the Match.Jacob – Unplayable at TimesJacob was in electric form. He mixed up his game beautifully—sometimes driving past players, sometimes picking the perfect pass. He showed real quality throughout and was simply unplayable for long spells. He also capped his performance with a brilliantly taken goal, struck with confidence and precision. A standout display and a well‑earned Parents Player.Charlie – Maximum Effort in Minimum TimeOnly available for the first two quarters, but he made every second count. Charlie gave everything—closing down, tackling, and working hard for the team. A really solid contribution that helped set the tone early on.📘 MATCH SUMMARYThe Strikers started brightly, moving the ball well and competing strongly. But a tough second quarter saw them switch off and concede four quick goals, leaving a mountain to climb. And climb it they did.The response was outstanding—full of spirit, teamwork, and quality. The boys fought their way back level and gave Leeds Ajax a proper game right to the end. At this age, you expect ups and downs, but the character they showed to recover was brilliant.A hugely enjoyable match with loads of positives and a few learning moments to take into training. Exactly what U7 football should be about. ... See MoreSee Less

Methley united u18’s - match report…So a trip to Garforth Rangers in very windy and challenging conditions.. we also had a lot of players missing and went with a squad of just 13 players.. however no matter… the lads put on a scintillating display.. some of the football was an absolute pleasure to watch.. James Clayson, Zach Wood and Vince Donaldson controlling play in midfield .. we started very brightly and created a number of chances in the first 20 minutes that we couldn’t quite finish off.. Albie Mathews causing havoc down the left hand side.. we hoped we wouldn’t rue those chances.. however on the 30 min mark the deadlock was broken with a well worked goal finished off by James Clayson.. 1-0 up at half time.. the coaches were clear at half time - more of the same please and more goals will come… and they did.. James grabbing 2 more for his hat trick and Albie grabbing a brace to ensure the points came back to Methley - final score 5–1… special mention to Robbie Beachall who was a rock in defence and Arthur Whelpton who went in goal and provided a surprisingly safe pair of hands.. the lads are playing well and we need to keep pushing… come on we’ve got this 💪🏼… onto next couple of games - cup game on Tuesday v Knottingley from the league above and an absolute must win v Ackworth.. #upthereds #muafc ... The u9 Blackhawks made the trip to Battyeford to play out a battling performance on a small, muddy pitch with a howling wind. The conditions were not ideal but the Blackhwaks got to work early in the game. The game started with Blackhawks on top as they battled hard for supremacy and went close early as Isla shot just wode and Eliza ran out of space on a couple of occasions with some mazy runs. Aria was controlling the game well in midfield and this was the pattern of the game early on with Battyeford looking dangerous on the break. Halle and Edie were working hard in defence to stop the threatening counter attacks. The game got to half time with no significant moments but then burst into life in the 3rd quarter as Blackhawks had a lapse in concentration and found themselves working to get back in the game. Then came a blistering 5 minites of Blackhawks at their best... Isla had 62 bites of the cherry before getting the reward she richly deserved, Evie was well placed to hit the roof of the net following quick feet from Eliza and then a solo effort from Eliza ended the quarter on a high.In the 3rd quarter, Alex started to influence the game and came close twice, the game became physical with challenges flying in as Battyeford broke again and Maia came to the rescue with a top save in the dying moments. Parents player: Evie and IslaCoaches player: HalleOpposition: IslaGoals: Isla, Evie, ElizaA battling performance that ended on a high as the girls got what they deserved for such amazing efforts and a resilience to never give up. ... The u10 Panthers welcomed Rothwell Juniors Blacks at Outwood this not-so-fine and blustery morning. The Panthers had plenty to do against quick-thinking and organised opposition and the keepers and defenders in particular worked hard to keep Methley in the game. This was reflected in the awards today with keeper Penny taking Coaches’ Player. Penny brought all the skills today - brilliant reflexes and impressive shot stopping. A real asset to the team to have such a commanding last line of defence. The Parents’ Player was Grace who covered a quarter in goal with confidence including a Spider-Man like save when we all thought it was going in. Outfield, as calm as ever, great passing out from the back.Bethany was Opposition Player. Ultrafast she provided an outlet on the break for Methley and her sharp reactions put her in the right place time and time again to disrupt the opposition. A week off now, enjoy your Easter Eggs Panthers and we look forward to our next outing ❤️🖤❤️ ... See MoreSee Less

A sunny Church Lane hosted Thunder’s match against Shelf. ☀️ Off the back of a great match last week, the girls were ready to go again! From the first whistle all the girls gave 100%.Hattie ❤️⚽️She played some great football in defence, showing us what she’s learned in training. She also had an epic assist this week when she played up front, as well as some lovely attacking play. Megan ❤️⚽️Another fantastic match for Megan. On the field she was a sensation in defence and had some lovely runs forward. She did us proud in goal as well. Dixie ❤️⚽️Another great match for D! Some brilliant passing and crossing, as well as some great tackles - she just gets better each week. Margot ❤️⚽️ (c)Our goalie was in form again today, making some great saves and being the centre of our defense. Out of goal she made some lovely runs and had some great shots on goal. As captain, it was lovely to hear and see Margot leading the team with positivity ❤️Parent’s Player ❤️⚽️ Viv 🏆🌟What a match for our Viv! Ten years ago, if you asked about girls’ football in Methley, the honest answer would have been…there isn’t really any.A few girls here and there, dotted across mixed teams. Never enough to form something of our own. And by the time they reached U13s, most had gone to other clubs, or out of the game altogether. There was no pathway. No structure. No reason to believe it could be different. But in 2015, something small started.A group of girls joined in with the minis. Mixed in with the boys, just trying to play. No big plan, no guarantees just people turning up and putting the time in.In 2017, they stepped into their first season at U7s. Week in, week out, facing almost entirely boys’ teams. It wasn’t easy, but it mattered. It was the beginning. Then came the turning point. In 2018, we moved them into the West Riding Girls League and for the first time, there was something to build on. A direction. A plan. When U7s football was introduced properly in 2019, the momentum started to grow. And from there, it didn’t stop.Session by session.Game by game.Team by team. Year by year. It’s a journey this club understands.Back in 2009, boys’ football in Methley was close to disappearing. What followed was the rise of the Mini Lions, a 30+ team rebuild that turned into something the whole village could be proud of.This time, we’ve done it again, for the girls. And now, here we are.18 girls’ teams across the club. A pathway that stretches from minis right through to open-age football with a new west riding open age womens team to be created soon.Opportunities for beginners, for those developing, and for those pushing themselves at the highest levels of grassroots football. A club that truly is football for all.And the growth hasn’t just been in numbers. Our teams are now stepping onto pitches against long-established sides from across Yorkshire, clubs with history, scale, and depth. And we’re not just turning up.We’re competing. We’re pushing for promotion. We’re reaching cup finals. We’re playing great football. We’re doing it for all abilities. But the real story is in the fact that the girls are still here.More joining. More staying. More believing they belong in the game. That’s what makes this different. That’s what makes people take notice.Because this week, when we spoke to the FA, the Football Foundation and the council about the Big Red Project, they all said the same thing…They’ve never seen growth like this, in a village like ours, in such a short space of time. And that’s exactly why the next step matters.Because what’s been built deserves the facilities to match it. For the girls. For the boys. For what comes next. This is growth. This is powerful. This is Methley United. This is for our children. ❤️⚽️🔴 GO METHLEY! 🔴 ... See MoreSee Less
