We have lots of new players this season but they all are geling together extremely well and they did all the coaches and parents proud with getting 5 players scoring goals some brilliant defensive play and some out standing goal keeping. Thunder U7 girls made the short trip to Fleet Lane to face Rothwell in our final pre season friendly.Rothwell started quickly and Methley faced wave after wave of attack, Siennas excellent display at the back frustrated the opposition but Methley looked to be struggling to find a way out.Against the run of play Mia won the ball from a Rothwell corner to break the pressure. She raced down field leaving the Rothwell defence stranded only to have her shot saved and scrambled off the line. Mia’s effort was inspirational as she continued to lead her team forward and the girls followed suit.In the second half the game started to open up as Amelia and Megan started to terrorise the Rothwell defence and Mia now between the sticks made some great saves to keep Methley in the hunt. Vivienne’s relentless battling in the middle led to the opening Methley had been looking for as she found Polly in space on the edge of the Rothwell box, Polly didn’t need a second invite and gave the keeper no chance, slotting it into the far corner much to the delight of the travelling support.Methley threw everything at Rothwell in the dying minutes and Rothwell responded in kind, leading to an epic grandstand finish when Dixie showed what it meant to put “side before self” as she sacrificed her good looks to block a powerful strike with her face!! It was frantic end to a fantastic game and a great end to the pre season. Methley travel to Pontefract Wildcats next week their first ever league match.🏆 Mia⚽️ PollySpecial Mention for Hattie returning to the squad this week it’s been great to have her back after a long layoff with injury. ... GW2 Match Report: Methley United U12 Whites vs. Monk Fryston DiamondsUnder the golden rays of a beautiful Saturday morning, Methley United U12 Whites traveled to the home of the Monk Fryston Diamonds. The mood was electric as our squad assembled—each player buzzing with laughter and excitement, eager to hit the pitch and play some football with their mates. The stage was set for an epic contest. But the match didn’t quite begin as Methley had hoped. From the first whistle, Monk Fryston came out firing, while we struggled to get into our rhythm. Within the opening 10 minutes, we found ourselves trailing 2-0, with one goal coming from a controversial penalty that had more than a few eyebrows raised on the sidelines. Despite this early setback, Methley showed their character and determination. Our response was swift and decisive. A slick move around the Monk Fryston box led to Oliver threading a perfect pass to Jake, who coolly slotted home from close range. That goal injected new life into the team, and suddenly we were back in the game, playing with the intensity we’re known for. The match became a thrilling end-to-end affair, with both teams showcasing some excellent football. As the first half drew to a close, Methley turned up the pressure, and once again, Jake was the man of the moment—finding himself in the right place at the right time to fire home the equalizer. 2-2 and game on! Just before the half-time whistle, the Methley fans were up on their feet, celebrating what looked like a go-ahead goal from Jake after a delightful through ball. But heartbreak struck as the referee’s blew his whistle for an offside that left many shaking their heads. The lads had given it their all as the first half came to an end, and the energy on the pitch was electric.HT: 2-2The second half kicked off with Methley looking sharp, carrying their momentum from the first half. But, once again, Monk Fryston struck quickly, bagging two goals in rapid succession to go 4-2 up. Lesser teams might have crumbled under such pressure, but not this Methley side. With heads held high and determination burning, the lads kept pressing forward. The breakthrough came when Charlie chased down a long ball with lightning speed, bursting past defenders and unleashing a fierce strike from a seemingly impossible angle. The ball rocketed into the back of the net! 4-3, and Methley was right back in it. Charlie wasn’t done either. Moments later, Oliver, now playing in defense, sent a stunning pass through to Charlie, who made no mistake, calmly tucking away the equalizer. 4-4, and the crowd could hardly contain themselves! The rest of the half was a pulsating, edge-of-your-seat spectacle. Methley poured on the pressure, and the chances came thick and fast. Twice more we had the ball in the back of the net, but the offside flag denied us yet again. Archie, meanwhile, rattled the post with a thunderous effort, and Aeden showed incredible awareness, clearing the ball off the line not once, but twice to keep us in the game.In the end, the final whistle blew on what had been a rollercoaster of a match. While we couldn’t quite clinch the victory, coming from two goals down not once, but twice, showed the heart and spirit of this Methley team. The 4-4 scoreline didn't tell the full story of a match that was filled with drama, skill, and no shortage of memorable moments.Final Score: 4-4A special mention to Archie, who took home both the Parents' and Coaches’ Player of the Week awards for his tireless, energetic, and determined performance. Well done, Archie! ... See MoreSee Less

Methley 14s 2 - 1 HowdenThis weekend we welcomed Howden over to Stade de Church Lane for our first home game of the season. Going by previous results, we knew it would be a tough game. And it was! The lads started off on the front foot, just like last week, and we should have had a couple in the opening 10 - 15 mins with some lovely link up play down both sides, especially on the left. Howden then came back in to the game and were unlucky not to get at least 1 of their opening chances converted. A really intense, hard fought 1st half looked like it was going to be at dead lock until, Cash pinged a ball over from the right, Kodi flicked on with a scissor kick and Albie headed home for us to be 1 nil up just as the whistle went for half time.2nd half, again, started very strongly and maybe should have capitalised on the chances we had but that's where Howden hurt you, which they did with their relentlessness and their no.9 broke through and slotted home to make it 1-1.This is where we needed our character, and concentration levels to be high. In previous seasons, we've crumbled and lost games like these, but the mental character and never give up attitude really showed this weekend, when Kodi broke down the right, some lovely feet, cut it back to CB who put it top bins. Last 5 minutes to go and we saw the game out and sealed the win with another 3 points.Albie ⚽️CB ⚽️M.O.M - Spencer ... See MoreSee Less

It was good to be back with the u9 Panthers playing at Church Lane today. The Panthers increased their squad during the summer break with 3 new signings Bethany, Darcey and Ruby. A pleasure to welcome them and they all made their mark in their debut league game for Methley. We played the talented Brighouse Juniors who posed a big challenge for our first outing as a 7-aside team. Whilst they kept our keepers busy, Matilda, Penny, Darcey and Macey were fantastic each quarter, each making some cracking saves.Outfield it was great to watch the battling for the ball. Positioning was a little confused at times particularly early on but the girls grew in confidence as the game went on. Their efforts were rewarded with a goal from Alice, a powerful strike showing a mature calmness in front of goal that bodes well…Coaches’ Girl of the Game went to Aurora for her composure, accurate passing and goal-saving tackles. She really listened the coaches and applied it on the pitch. Parents’ Player was Bethany who commanded her wing, tirelessly making runs forward with excellent tracking back when needed. Some nifty footwork on display too! We’d like to thank Minuteman Press for supplying certificates again and helping us reward the players each week. Go Panthers!!! ❤️🖤❤️minuteman.com/uk/locations/england/leeds/ ... See MoreSee Less

Today our u18’s hosted our friends from Ackworth hoping to make it 2 wins from 2… we started the game brightly (for once).. with some good play from midfield we enjoyed the majority of the possession but couldn’t find any kind of clear cut chances to speak of… we defended well and never really looked like conceding - and that’s how the half ended up 0-0… we knew we could be better and that space would open up in the second half.. within 4 mins we had created a couple of good chances.. and shortly after a brilliant through ball from Oli Abrams gave Jack Taylor the opportunity to slot home for 1-0… we continued pushing but couldn’t find another.. we felt we needed another as Ackworth started to push and look dangerous.. we won a corner and a fantastic delivery from Jack Ellis allowed Dan Kay to head home to make it 2-0.. this allowed us to relax a little and began to play some really good football.. as Ackworth tried another attack another brilliant ball over the top from Jack Ellis gave Jack Taylor the chance to double his tally - and he did just that.. 3-0 and two wins from two since stepping up into the u18’s.. 💪🏼💪🏼 ... Our u9s Whites started the season at home today against Featherstone Flyers. It was a tough game in very wet conditions for our first game at 7 a side and the boys put in a fantastic battling performance. There was some solid defending and some good passing as we looked to adjust to the bigger pitch and make use of the space. Ethan, Leo, Zach and Freddie made some good challenges and passes out of defence first half with Ollie, Joe, Harry and Thomas working well in the midfield pressing forward. Some great saves from Riley in goal including a brilliant double save. 2nd half saw Freddie take over in goal with his usual solid performance and Leo move into a more advanced position coming close to scoring a couple of times. Player of the match to Zach for his hard work in defence and constantly trying to get the ball forward and captain to Riley for some great saves and a stand out solid performance in defence 2nd half. Looking forward to the season ahead! ... See MoreSee Less

We had Chris Kamara down to watch our U12 Whites today:Unbelievable, Jeff! The smell of freshly cut grass, a bit of Deep Heat in the air – you know what that means – football is BACK! And what a way to kick off the season as Methley United U12 Whites welcomed the old rivals Holme Rovers to Church Lane! This fixture has seen some cracking contests in the past, and let me tell you, today was no different! From the first whistle, Methley were absolutely on fire! Corey – he was electric on the left, mate – terrorising the defender and getting all sorts of chances going. And then, would you believe it, after some lovely play around the box, the ball fell to Jake, and BANG! 1-0 to Methley! The crowd’s going wild, and so are the players! With their tails up, they’re on the attack again. Corey, again, causing havoc, slips it to Oliver – who was brilliant all half – and he tees up Jake for his second! 2-0! They’re flying! But don’t write Holme Rovers off! No, no! They’ve got a bit of pace out wide, and on one occasion, their attacker goes on a great solo run – beats everyone – and it’s 2-1! Game on, Jeff!Second half – there’s been a bit of a shuffle from the gaffer – and Methley are at it again! But wait, what’s this? A bit of a scramble in the box and oh no, it's an own goal! It’s 2-2! Holme are back in it!It’s end-to-end stuff now. Joey’s putting in some brilliant tackles, Cooper is everywhere, Aeden’s in the right places in midfield, and Logan between the sticks – top saves, lad! Methley keep knocking on the door, with Archie delivering great crosses and Teddy going for the audacious trivela! Lucas even had one in the back of the net – but the ref’s called it handball! He says it’s all chest! As Arsene Wenger would say – 'I didn’t see it' – classic! The tension is through the roof as the clock ticks down, both teams giving it everything! Luca – what a player today! His energy, determination, and just not giving up! He’s won both Coaches' and Parents’ Player of the Match – well deserved!Full-time, 2-2, and honestly, Methley could’ve nicked it, but Holme might think they could’ve too. A brilliant start to the season though! What a performance from every single one of the lads. Can’t wait for the next one, Jeff – bring it on!Kammy - out. ... See MoreSee Less
