THE PRIDE OF METHLEY

Summer Gala Update:

It is with real disappointment that, as a club, we have reached the decision that Methley United will not be hosting a Summer Football Gala this year.

This would have been our 13th year of running club galas โ€” events that have been highlights of so many summers and something we as a club have always been immensely proud of. Over the years, visiting teams have repeatedly told us how much they have enjoyed attending, and that reputation is something we value hugely.

Unfortunately, for a number of reasons this year, we have been unable to secure enough visiting teams and volunteers to allow us to run the events successfully.

We know many grassroots clubs are facing similar challenges, with league seasons running later into the year and reducing the window available for summer tournaments, meaning local clubs are often competing to host events on the same weekends. Alongside that, grassroots football is increasingly feeling the impact of changing family commitments and the growing challenge of finding enough volunteer time and support to deliver events of this scale.

ย

We remain incredibly proud of our club, our teams, our volunteers and all our members, and of the reputation Methley United has built for hosting galas people genuinely want to attend.

This is not the end of Methley United galas forever โ€” but sadly it is not possible this year.

All teams who entered will receive a full refund and will have been contacted directly.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support.

MUAFC

Welcome to Methley United Football Club! Our club is built on the belief that football should be something everyone can enjoy, regardless of age, ability, or background. We have something truly special here in Methleyโ€”a dedicated team of volunteers and a supportive community that makes all the difference. Thank you for being part of our journey, and I look forward to seeing you on the pitch!

๐Ÿ† **GALA CHAMPIONS!** ๐Ÿ†Saturday 27th June our Methley Vipers U9s delivered an outstanding gala performance, claiming their second gala win in two weeks! **GROUP STAGE: QUALIFICATION SECURED**Our journey started with character. A fantastic day for the Strikers yesterday winning the Wakefield owls gala then going on to their presentationโ€ฆWhat a first season itโ€™s been. A first year of competitive football for these lads, and what a learning curve it has been โ€” for them, and for us coaches too. Weโ€™ve had the highs: the moments of unbelievable football, the goals, the tackles, the teamworkโ€ฆ and weโ€™ve had the tough days, the ones where weโ€™ve had to dig in, learn, and come back stronger. But hereโ€™s the thing about this group:They always showed up.Rain, wind, hail, sideways rain, more rainโ€ฆ they were there. They gave 100% every single week. They grew as individuals, and they grew even more as a team. And when you look at where they finished the season compared to where they started โ€” the improvement is massive. They ended the season flying, full of confidence, full of momentum, and full of excitement for next year. And thatโ€™s down to their attitude, their effort, and their love for the game.We couldnโ€™t be prouder of them.Ellis โ€“ The HeartbeatEllis is the kid who gives absolutely everything, every single game. He plays with a huge smile, he works his socks off, and heโ€™s the kind of teammate every squad needs โ€” caring, supportive, and always positive. And of courseโ€ฆ a moment heโ€™ll never forget: scoring against Man City. Not many kids can say that. Ellis, youโ€™ve been brilliant this season.Charlie โ€“ The Gentle Giant (Until You Run at Him)Charlie grew massively into his defensive role this year. He plays with joy, but tackles like a lad twice his size. Fierce, committed, and brave. And one thing that stands out: he is always the first one over when a teammate takes a knock. That tells you everything about his character. A brilliant season, Charlie.Finley โ€“ The Speed MachineFinley has always been a strong tackler โ€” with some of the best sound effects in junior football โ€” and his speed is a huge asset to the team. He covers so much ground and his positional play has improved massively as the season has gone on. A proper athlete and a proper team player.Nathaniel โ€“ The Breakthrough StarWhat a journey this lad has had. He started the season asking to go in goalโ€ฆ and finished it with a rocket of a shot that scares goalkeepers. His development has been huge โ€” tackling, working hard, scoring goals, and improving every single week.A massive 26/27 season is coming for you, Nathaniel.Seb โ€“ The WarriorSeb is Methleyโ€™s little warrior. 100% effort, 100% commitment, 100% of the time.He bulldozes through anything in his way, dominates defensively, and drives the team forward whenever he can.Heโ€™s been outstanding all season and is a huge reason the Strikers compete and win games. A vital player for this team.Kye โ€“ The Bite and the MagicKye gives the Strikers real bite โ€” strong in the tackle, relentless in his work rateโ€ฆ but donโ€™t let that fool you. This kid can play.A magical left foot, loads of goals, and as the season went on he really grew in bringing his teammates into the game.A brilliant allโ€‘round footballer and a huge part of the team.Jacob โ€“ The Midโ€‘Season Game ChangerWhen Jacob became eligible to play after turning 6, it was like signing a superstar midโ€‘season. He added real quality โ€” winning tackles at the back, then driving forward and terrorising teams with his skill. He scored plenty, created plenty, and lifted the whole team. A massive addition to the Strikers.Albie โ€“ The DazzlerAlbie showed up every single week, no matter the score, no matter the situation, and gave everything. His feet were dazzling at times โ€” defenders still have nightmares โ€” and his finishing improved massively as the season went on.He scored loads of goalsโ€ฆ and even smashed Haalandโ€™s tally in a competition he didnโ€™t know he was in.A brilliant season, Albie.AwardsParentsโ€™ Player of the Year โ€“ SebThe parents have voted, and theyโ€™ve chosen a lad who has been strong, consistent, and outstanding all season.Well done, Seb โ€” a brilliant choice.Playersโ€™ Player of the Year โ€“ AlbieThe boys have recognised a teammate who has helped them all year, on and off the pitch.Well done, Albie โ€” the respect of your teammates says everything. Most Improved Player โ€“ NathanielA kid who has shown huge progression, week after week, and is the definition of this award.Well done, Nathaniel โ€” fully deserved.Coachesโ€™ Player of the Year โ€“ KyeThis is always the hardest award to choose โ€” we could genuinely pick every single one of them. But this year, weโ€™ve chosen a lad who wears his heart on his sleeve, is consistent every week, helps in attack, digs in defensively, and gives everything for the Strikers.Well done, Kye โ€” a brilliant season.Youโ€™ve been a joy to coach. Youโ€™ve made us proud every single week. Keep working hard, keep enjoying your football, and keep being the brilliant teammates you are.Parents, thank you for the lifts, the support, the encouragement, the sideline cheers, and the sideline nerves. This is just the beginning.Next seasonโ€ฆ we go again, stronger, better, and ready for more. ... Hall Green Gala 2026Our U9 Vipers played their first gala of 2026 at Hall Green this afternoon. Weather was absolutely glorious (glad to come away not looking Red for a change)We entered into the Champions League group, playing a 5v5 format, I have to say, it was strange seeing them back on a 5-a-side pitch after a season at 7-a-side.Onto the group stage, and what a great start our Vipers made in a tough match against a top Thornes Whites side. We made a quick start and soon found ourselves 2-0 up, plenty of great team work, and some great saves made from Joel to keep us ahead. We eventually saw out the game 3-2. Next up we had Seacroft Eagles in what was a pretty one sided game, some great long range finishes had us winning this one 7-0. Our last group game was against our gala hosts, and a team we know well from this season. This one was a really tight game, again we passed around well, and managed to head in front and see the game out 1-0. Winning all groups had us topping the group and into the final against Thornes Whites who finished in second. The Final:Well, this certainly wasnโ€™t a repeat of the group game in terms of the scoreline, however in terms of the game itself, it was again another great battle against two great sides, both keepers shutting each other out, but Thornes did eventually go 1-0 up with an absolute great strike. Our Vipers werenโ€™t behind for long though, and we got ourselves back in the game after Noah took advantage from a keeper fumble from Romans shot. The rest of the game was a constant back and forth but finally ended 1-1 and onto a dreaded penalty shootout.Penalties:I hate these, but the kids seem to love them ๐Ÿคฃ all 5 of our takers were little warriors. After 4 penalties each, we were ahead 4-3. Thornes scored their fifth and the weight of the world fell on Jacks shoulders to put away his penalty and crown us champions and boy did he put it away. The girls worked their socks off, getting to the final pushing Wakefield Schools Football Association all the way to penalties in the final but finished runners up in a superb match. What a day for Methley U11s Reds at the Thornes Gala! ๐Ÿ†โšฝThe lads were outstanding throughout the tournament, smashing their way to the top of the scoreboard with **8 points and playing some fantastic 5-a-side football.A brilliant 2-0 victory in the semi-final booked their place in the final, where another tough challenge awaited.Heading into the final, Methley took the lead, but the game finished 1-1 sending it into extra time. With neither side able to find a winner, it all came down to the dreaded !penalty shootout! The penalties stayed level for what felt like forever, but the boys held their nerve and showed incredible determination to come out on top.Methley U11s Reds have done it again, keeping their winning gala streak alive and bringing the cup home! ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ”ดโšฝA huge well done to all the players for their effort, teamwork, and determination throughout the day. This morning the U10s Whites attended the Garforth Rangers gala. The weather wasn't as we had hoped but the new gazebo the parents had fundraised to purchase saw its first outing and came in very useful between matches. The team proudly wore our new away kit for the first time, showed amazing team spirit and played some fantastic football. Zaine joined us from the u10s Reds and Joshua made his debut for the team after training with us for a few seasons and both slotted into the team seamlessly. Alex, James, Zaine and Joshua, in defence, along with Harry and Jesse who shared the central defensive midfield role, worked hard with some great blocks and tackles to ensure we only conceded 2 goals all tournament. Riley, described as "a brick wall" in goal, pulled off some brilliant saves to keep 4 clean sheets. The midfield 3 of Joe, Aaron and Thomas linked up excellently with some brilliant and fast runs down the wings and also some excellent passing between them and the central defensive midfielders to score some fantastic goals. The group stage saw some closely fought games with 2 draws, a win and a defeat being enough to see us through to the semi finals where we grew in confidence and showed our best football. The semi final was a close affair against Collingham which we won 1-0 with a superbly taken goal from Thomas. On to the final where we came up against Hall Green who we had drawn 0-0 with in the first game of the day. We pressed from the first whistle and scored quickly with a well taken goal from Joe. This wasn't the time to sit back and defend though and we kept the pressure on to win the final 3-0 with another goal from Joe, and one from, Thomas adding to his semi final goal and the hatrick he scored in the group stage. An outstanding team performance from all 10 players who all deserved their medals The whole tournament was played with smiles on their faces and in great spirit and seeing their faces when they won the final and lifted the trophy was the icing on the cake. Well done boys! ... See MoreSee Less
