It was another grey and dreary morning—perfect footballing weather—as Methley U12 Whites traveled to Altofts for another local derby. As always, there was an air of excitement among the team to get going and give it our all.The pre-match team talk covered all the usual reminders: be first to the ball, win the 50-50s, give it everything, and most importantly, enjoy the game.In the first half, both teams started well. Aeden was playing some excellent passes in midfield alongside Teddy who was strong finding some good passes himself, while Cooper and Blake brought great energy to our left side. Methley was looking for that perfect through ball to set Jake free in attack, but he faced a strong Altofts defense snuffing most out. Unfortunately, the first goal of the game went to Altofts after some impressive team play and individual skill, putting us 1-0 down. Despite this, Methley kept pushing. Lucas came into midfield, bringing energy and grit, and set the ever-dynamic Luca free down the right. Luca drove into the box and unleashed a powerful shot towards the far post. The defender managed to get a touch but only deflected the ball into Jake's path, who fired home to level the score at 1-1.At halftime, we spoke to the lads about keeping the energy up, continuing to work hard, and making sure to get back in numbers to defend. The second half continued in the same vein, with both teams playing an entertaining, end-to-end game. Oliver was as solid as ever at the back, starting nearly all our attacks with his intelligent passing. On either side of him, Joey made crucial tackles, and Archie won the ball back and set the play forward. Behind them, Logan had a confident game in goal, looking more comfortable every week. Methley moved the ball well and gave it everything they had. During a five-minute spell of intense pressure, it felt like a goal was coming. Corey, now playing up front, had some great shots on goal and even rattled the woodwork. Charlie, too, was getting into dangerous areas on the right wing, but we just couldn't find the back of the net. Almost against the run of play, the Altofts striker broke through and scored, making it 2-1 with just five minutes left. It was a cruel blow. Our heads didn’t drop, and we pushed hard for an equalizer, but it just wasn’t to be and it ended 2-1 to Altofts. It was a spirited display from Methley, and the team can hold their heads high, knowing they put in a strong performance. Today, it was just someone else’s turn to win.Our coaches' player of the match was Aeden for his excellent passing in the heart of midfield. The parents' player award had six nominations after such a strong team performance, but it was Logan who took the prize for his solid goalkeeping and top-tier encouragement for his teammates. ... Methley Utd Tigers U10s away at Drig Juniors U10sWonderful performance, some great attacking play and passing, gung ho football at its very best.Coach Ian, fair play for the team changes today, worked really well, and well done to players for great attitude and determination all round. It's hard praising your own, but 4 cracking goals today from Charlie and some good saves won him Opposition MOM and Hawk deservedly picked up the Coaches MOM for a disciplined, silky performance.Billy scored what can only be described as the best goal anyone has seen, at any level, ever, and was brave enough to go in goal too.Ben showed wonderful feet in midfield and Logan was quietly superb yet again.Captain Joshua ran himself into the ground for the team, whilst Freddie and Zak defended doggedly.Reuben ran Hawk close for MOM as the 2 wing backs pushed forward and defended brilliantly.Jacob almost won us the game with a typically composed strike near the end after more energetic work from Parker who continues to be integralArchie, well Archie is just ace isn't he 🤣 I'm glad I don't have to play against him the little warriorIt's a pleasure when the kids turn up with that hunger and desire. U14s 8 - 3 Ponty BluesAfter what seemed like an eternity, our u14s were back in action yesterday against a very resilient ponty team in the league. As we do every year, we always hold a minutes silence to pay our respects to the fallen on this weekend, a special thanks Dave for playing the Last Post before our game.As always, we started on the front foot with a high press, winning the ball back high up the pitch and creating chances down our wings. An early couple of goals and we settled down and played our passing game, but maybe a bit too relaxed as ponty came back into it before half time struck, 3-2 HT.Told the lads to win the ball back, and play wide as we were creating so many chances going wide, and they did just that in the 2nd half, having scored 4 quick goals and more or less putting the game to bed, we could finally relax and enjoy the football the lads were playing. Credit to ponty, they never gave up and kept pushing.Kodi ⚽️⚽️⚽️Cash ⚽️⚽️⚽️Oscar ⚽️Paddy⚽️M.O.M - KodiSpecial mentions to the player sponsors for us this season,Jordan Safety Services LimitedGarforth Security KW BuildersWilson's SolictorsFreedom 2 Dance Ltd GH TilingZest CateringLovely Lashes5 Towns Roofing and Guttering1st class Roofing and Scaffolding ServicesOne Stop StoresAlso, a massive shout out to our new kit sponsor, SIGMA, much appreciated for getting the lads the new kit, looks absolutely quality!! ... *U11 Cup Final - Blacks v Whites* 🏆A Methley derby in a cup final—a game filled with friendly rivalry, as friends lined up on opposing sides. Both teams played hard, determined to win, but fair. The match began with an impeccable minute’s silence in honour of fallen soldiers from the world wars and other conflicts since. In a tightly contested game, the Blacks started strong, with the Whites taking time to settle into their rhythm. As the match progressed, the Whites found their stride. Second-half goals from Dylan and Max led them to secure their first trophy. In the end, it was a shame that one team had to lose, but both sides were gracious in victory and defeat. ... An unfortunate 2-1 loss in the cup for the U9 reds today, even a few hours later I’m still trying to figure out how we missed so many chances but that’s how football goes sometimes.Lots of positives to take from today tho:Teamwork Chances created Composure ImprovementWell done to Freddie for parents player today showing great strength and for the amount of chances he created. Coaches player went to Jaxon today, driving us forward in the first quarter and some fantastic tackles in defence. We go again next weekend and I think we’ll do some shooting practice at training Tuesday… ... See MoreSee Less

The U9 Panthers continue to impress. This morning we headed to Crofton where players, coaches and spectators came together before kick off to observe an immaculate minute’s silence. Then it was time to focus on the game and the girls certainly delivered!! The ‘Panthers Press’ was relentless again. They are increasingly managing parts of the game themselves and their positional play has come on leaps and bounds. The coaches were delighted with the lifting of heads to make the pass to team mates and for somehow bringing more energy with each quarter played. Goals came from Alice (5), Aurora (2), Grace (2), Olivia, Annie and Ruby. Shout out to Penny for a solid final quarter in goal. It was the busiest spell for the keeper but she was calm and always where she needed to be. Those brilliant goal kicks too…Alice was the coaches’ Girl of the Game. As well as her goal tally she played a key assist role for the team and used her speed to great effect, be it leading the charge forward or tracking back.Darcey was the Parents’ Player for a high energy performance, super reliable everywhere on the pitch she made life hard for anyone trying to get past her. And great runs on the wing to keep Methley on the attack.Keep up the attitude, the team spirit and the smiles girls. It’s an absolute joy to follow the Panthers ❤️🖤❤️ ... See MoreSee Less

Thunder hosted Pontefract Wildcats at Chruch Lane today. We knew this would be a great match, as the few times we have met, it is always down to the wire. Both teams observed a minutes silence before the match started, to show our respect to all who have made sacrifices and given their lives, so we can be here today. 🌹 From the first whistle, Thunder’s attitude to play today was spot on, driving for the ball and getting stuck into tackles at every opportunity. To say they make us proud each week in an understatement. ⚽️ Dixie started off the scoring with a great shot into the left corner of the net, after some great ball skills to set herself up. She had some great shots on target today, and is showing such an awareness of her own ability and how to read the opposition. 🌟 Amelia had a super game today, constantly searching for the goal and having some great shots on target. She showed great skills with the ball around the goal area, and did us proud during her stint in goal as well. 🌟 Mia had a great match in midfield, finding space and focussing on blocking Wildcats moving forwards.🌟 Sienna played some great defensive football, playing a position in which she seems to thrive playing. ⚽️ Polly later joined the score sheet after some great midfield tackling and had a great shot on target, which hammered home. She also had a great quarter in goal. Parents Player - Viv 🏆 ⚽️Viv was on a mission to score, and after a lot of great tackles and pushing forwards through the Wildcats defence, she finally was rewarded, again with a shot into the left bottom corner. Her resilience and perseverance was relentless. Coaches Player - Megan 🏆 ⚽️Where to start. Megan woke up today ready for a battle, and wow did she not disappoint. She went in for tackle after tackle after tackle, and was not phased by any player or situation on the pitch. She was instrumental in most goals scored today. An absolutely outstanding performance. ... See MoreSee Less

It was a fantastic game today, well contested on both sides. It was lovely to see a well-observed and respectful minute’s silence before kick-off.A tight match between two strong teams, Methley showed Thornes just how much they’ve improved since our last meeting earlier in the season. The team defended excellently against a well-organized Thornes side, who pressed Methley high up the pitch.Violet’s contribution in defense was outstanding. She won every loose ball, covered excellently, and, when winning possession, consistently made positive attacking moves. Whether through an intelligent pass to a forward or by driving the ball up herself, she demonstrated she’s not afraid to take initiative. For this, she earned the Coaches’ Player of the Game award.Saskia was once again in great scoring form, adding two more excellent goals to her growing season tally and earning the Parents’ Player award. There was lots of impressive football on display today, especially as we saw the girls starting to develop more match strategies, using both their positioning on and off the ball to create and utilize space. Maria did an especially good job in the center forward position, helping maintain our structure up front. All in all, it was a very positive match. Every girl showed real determination. With a large squad all turning out this morning, it’s important to reinforce how critical our substitutes are. We aim to give every girl equal minutes as much as possible and love how eager they all are to play. I was so proud of the attitude of the girls when they were on the sideline —watching, supporting, giving encouragement, and staying engaged in the game. It’s a joy to see this team fall more in love with football each week. Thanks once again to our amazing parents and guardians for helping set up, clear away, and always encouraging and supporting the girls. Special thanks to, Will for refereeing with a firm but fair hand, and to Alana for these fantastic photos. ... See MoreSee Less

Morning all, this is a message that has been sent to all coaches this morning, please parents take note, poor discipline, respect and behaviour at grassroots football is not acceptable and we as a club take this very seriously. Another busy weekend of football with 35 junior/senior fixtures being played. There is a massive focus now from the FA and the leagues around the on field and off field behaviour of players, parents and coaches. The number of serious incidents at junior games this year has been way above what has happened in previous seasons, we have noticed as a club the number of child welfare incidents where our teams have been involved increase significantly too. We need to keep the focus of the past month and keep the awareness up in our teams that poor behaviour on the sidelines or on the pitch will not be tolerated. The raised focus within the club is great, we have seen over recent weeks parents/carers of our own team reporting the actions of individual parents/carers that are creating a poor atmosphere on the sidelines week in / week out. This is the only way this will stop, as a club we will be visiting random games to ensure the behaviour on and off the pitch is the high standards we set ourselves. All we ask is everyone shows respect at all times, this is to all players, coaches, parents and of course the officials 👍As a club we will not tolerate frequent yellow cards for dissent to officials, abusing officials or getting involved in altercations. The FA and the leagues are looking at club discipline closely and this could seriously impact us massively, we certainly as a committee do not want to waste our time and effort on disciplinary hearings because individuals can not behave on or off the pitch. If we can make sure each week we are getting this message out there we can make sure our reputation as a club is kept in high regard by everyone in the grassroots game. I must say this has massively improved in the past month so please keep this up 👍Please remember at all games home and away - respect barriers are to be used and ALL parents/carers and non playing visitors MUST stand behind this and not on the coaching side or behind the goals.Let’s all have an enjoyable weekend on the fields and let’s not forget why we all do this, it’s for the players and their enjoyment so let’s make it fun and a nice environment in which to play. Thanks allChris👍😀⚽️ ... We are ultra lucky to have such great pitches. In a survey with our club members last year the most important thing to our players and parents were the pitch surfaces. We have invested a lot of time and money over the summer in getting the pitches up to scratch, with an army of volunteers, we have now got the lease on the fields have invested in some of the finest grassroots pitch maintenance companies around Sports Pitch Maintenance and PM Pitch Marking, within a few weeks they are starting to look absolutely fantastic. We know this is a long term project but having more sites in and around the village is enabling us to reduce the number of games on each pitch each week, for a club our size it’s impossible sadly to have every pitch in the village, what we have done though is ensure we use sites that have nice pitches, that some of our players go to (school pitches) and that are in close proximity to the village. All these pitches are approved by our fantastic coaches and committee before we use the fields to ensure everything is ok - we are so proud to be in partnership with Methley Primary, Brigshaw high school, Woodlesford Primary, Outwood Grange, Cas Academy and St Wilfred’s - we are on the look out for more local venues and we will be announcing these very soon 👍⚽️😃We have been lucky with the weather recently but we know the investment in pitches is key to getting as many games on as possible over the winter period. We have already had over 200 home games played since the start of the season so we are proud to see them looking as good as they are today. #upthereds ... See MoreSee Less

Great to hear so much positive feedback from our coaches, players and visiting coaches, players and parents about the quality of our pitches and line marking at all our home sites. It was our first week this season of using Jonny @ Sports Pitch Maintenance and Paul @ PM Pitch Marking and hopefully the partnership over the coming season and beyond is a huge step forward in moving away from the council with the lease now signed for the Church Lane and Sav Park pitches 👍The work carried out on the pitches over the summer by the small team of methley volunteers is really paying dividends now, only a few pics shown here but all pitches looking prestige, only going to get better as we continue working with these fantastic people.#upthereds ... It was a WOW performance from the U9 Panthers today. Probably the best team performance we’ve seen, borne out of that perfect combination of effort, concentration and enjoyment. A real buzz in the first quarter set the tone, incredible support from the subs matched by fantastic communication on the field. The Panthers’ Press (soon to be trade marked) was a force to be reckoned with. Collectively they were incredibly effective and relentless.⚽️GoalsOlivia (5), Annie (3), Aurora (3), Darcey (2), Alice, Macey. 📣Shout outsOlivia’s corners, Bethany bossing the wing and Annie’s crowd-pleasing step overs! Also our opposition players who, with a squad of seven, each played every minute 👏The Coaches’ Girl of the Game was Darcey for a confident and intelligence performance. Brilliant positional play defensively and a real desire to win every ball. The Parents’ Player was Grace who led the press with great energy. She never gave up and made some brilliant runs forward. Also, super vocal, it was a real captain’s performance!Fantastic to have so many football highlights today but the real joy was watching them gel. The talking and organising themselves was brilliant. We played in Woodlesford but I’m sure you heard the cries of ‘mark up’ and ‘no retreat’ in Methley! Well done girls and GO Panthers ❤️🖤❤️ ... See MoreSee Less

With no competitive fixture, Methley U12 Whites were kindly hosted by Monk Fryston Diamonds for a friendly. Both sides were welcomed by classic autumnal conditions: grey skies and soft ground, but mercifully no wind or rain. After both sets of coaches managed to convince the referee he needed a new alarm clock, we were finally underway 😊.Both teams started brightly, and it was a pretty end-to-end and evenly contested game. We had talked to the lads about playing the ball wide and using the space, and they executed this plan brilliantly. We also emphasized passing to teammates rather than attempting to dribble past someone every time they received the ball, and they nailed that as well. Even the opposition coach complimented the lads on their unselfish play and impressive passing. Both teams created good opportunities, with Monk Fryston hitting the post twice. However, it was Methley who broke the deadlock. Luca unleashed a fierce shot that slipped through the keeper's hands, and as the ball trickled toward the line, Corey appeared like David Nugent, determined to make absolutely sure—and bagged his first goal of the season. 1-0 Methley. At halftime, the lads were surprisingly hard on themselves, convinced they weren’t playing well. This was, of course, nonsense. After some positive vibes from the coaches, they went out for the second half with (hopefully) a bit more confidence. The second half mirrored the first—closely contested and full of energy. The next goal came from a lovely move out wide and a cross that found the striker for a tap-in. Unfortunately, this textbook Methley move was executed by Monk Fryston! Clearly, they must have been watching our training sessions. But one thing this team has in abundance is resilience; heads didn’t drop, and they kept pushing forward. Monk Fryston enjoyed a surge of confidence after their equalizer, but we weathered the storm and began creating pressure of our own. The boys carved out a few good chances with terrific balls into the box from our wingers, but the ball just wouldn't drop for us. A couple of missed opportunities and a few questionable offside calls later, we finally got a stroke of luck. A beautifully floated corner from Luca found Archie in the six-yard box, and he slammed it home to make it 2-1 with five minutes left on the clock. With 40 seconds to go, we had another corner. This one didn’t quite fall our way, and despite calls from the kids for a penalty (for what might have been a 'foul' on Oliver—it was debatable), Monk Fryston countered. Archie, who had moved up as striker, made a heroic sprint back to challenge, but the referee had other ideas and awarded a free kick. With the very last kick of the game, Monk Fryston’s No. 11 stepped up and broke Methley hearts, scoring to make it 2-2.All in all, a draw was probably a fair result. It was a good run-out for Methley—not our best performance, but full of positives and areas to build on. That now takes us to five games unbeaten!Today’s Coaches' Player was Blake for an energetic display and some excellent wing play, creating plenty of chances for his teammates. Oliver, a.k.a. “the cheat code” (as named by Coach Rich), once again clinched the Parents' Player award with a commanding performance at the heart of our defense. ... See MoreSee Less

The Blackhawks made an early morning trip across to Battyeford on a beautiful autumnal morning and served up another treat of competitive football. The game was very even as both teams played at a high intensity. The game ebbed and flowed as both teams tackled, chased and tried to gain some dominace. The first half was full of incredible displays as Alex was faultless in goal, Halle put on a masterclass in defence and Edie chased everything like a woman possessed.Methley couldn't take advantage of getting in some fantastic positions following some superb passing and the half ended even.Battyeford came out strong in the second half and a whirlwind 5 minutes but Methley in a tricky position. The blackhawks kept going and again showed a never say die attitude and kept tying to do the right thing and ended the game on top but couldn't quite take advantage.A brilliant game of football played in a fantastic spirit as the girls keep showing unbelievable progress and heart.Leadership team: Isla (C), Halle (VC)Parents player: AlexOpposition player: ElizaGo Blackhawks ...
