THE PRIDE OF METHLEY

Summer Gala Update:

It is with real disappointment that, as a club, we have reached the decision that Methley United will not be hosting a Summer Football Gala this year.

This would have been our 13th year of running club galas — events that have been highlights of so many summers and something we as a club have always been immensely proud of. Over the years, visiting teams have repeatedly told us how much they have enjoyed attending, and that reputation is something we value hugely.

Unfortunately, for a number of reasons this year, we have been unable to secure enough visiting teams and volunteers to allow us to run the events successfully.

We know many grassroots clubs are facing similar challenges, with league seasons running later into the year and reducing the window available for summer tournaments, meaning local clubs are often competing to host events on the same weekends. Alongside that, grassroots football is increasingly feeling the impact of changing family commitments and the growing challenge of finding enough volunteer time and support to deliver events of this scale.

We remain incredibly proud of our club, our teams, our volunteers and all our members, and of the reputation Methley United has built for hosting galas people genuinely want to attend.

This is not the end of Methley United galas forever — but sadly it is not possible this year.

All teams who entered will receive a full refund and will have been contacted directly.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support.

What a day for Methley U11s Reds at the Thornes Gala! 🏆⚽The lads were outstanding throughout the tournament, smashing their way to the top of the scoreboard with **8 points and playing some fantastic 5-a-side football.A brilliant 2-0 victory in the semi-final booked their place in the final, where another tough challenge awaited.Heading into the final, Methley took the lead, but the game finished 1-1 sending it into extra time. With neither side able to find a winner, it all came down to the dreaded !penalty shootout! The penalties stayed level for what felt like forever, but the boys held their nerve and showed incredible determination to come out on top.Methley U11s Reds have done it again, keeping their winning gala streak alive and bringing the cup home! 🏆🔴⚽A huge well done to all the players for their effort, teamwork, and determination throughout the day. You did yourselves, your coaches, and your supporters proud.Champions once again! 👏🎉 #methleyredsu11 #champions #thornesgala #cupwinners #upthereds ... See MoreSee Less

This morning the U10s Whites attended the Garforth Rangers gala. The weather wasn't as we had hoped but the new gazebo the parents had fundraised to purchase saw its first outing and came in very useful between matches. The team proudly wore our new away kit for the first time, showed amazing team spirit and played some fantastic football. Zaine joined us from the u10s Reds and Joshua made his debut for the team after training with us for a few seasons and both slotted into the team seamlessly. Alex, James, Zaine and Joshua, in defence, along with Harry and Jesse who shared the central defensive midfield role, worked hard with some great blocks and tackles to ensure we only conceded 2 goals all tournament. Riley, described as "a brick wall" in goal, pulled off some brilliant saves to keep 4 clean sheets. The midfield 3 of Joe, Aaron and Thomas linked up excellently with some brilliant and fast runs down the wings and also some excellent passing between them and the central defensive midfielders to score some fantastic goals. The group stage saw some closely fought games with 2 draws, a win and a defeat being enough to see us through to the semi finals where we grew in confidence and showed our best football. The semi final was a close affair against Collingham which we won 1-0 with a superbly taken goal from Thomas. On to the final where we came up against Hall Green who we had drawn 0-0 with in the first game of the day. We pressed from the first whistle and scored quickly with a well taken goal from Joe. This wasn't the time to sit back and defend though and we kept the pressure on to win the final 3-0 with another goal from Joe, and one from, Thomas adding to his semi final goal and the hatrick he scored in the group stage. An outstanding team performance from all 10 players who all deserved their medals The whole tournament was played with smiles on their faces and in great spirit and seeing their faces when they won the final and lifted the trophy was the icing on the cake. Well done boys! ... See MoreSee Less

In scorching conditions, Methley Thunder took to the pitch against a fantastic Rothwell Town side in what proved to be a real battle from start to finish. Both teams gave everything in the blazing sun, showing great determination, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout.Polly ❤️⚽️🌟She was immense in defence. Her strength and fearless tackling helped keep Rothwell Town at bay on numerous occasions, never shying away from a challenge.Megan ❤️⚽️🌟This young lady worked tirelessly around the pitch, showing excellent movement and awareness. She was instrumental in breaking up opposition attacks and helping the team transition from defence to attack.Hattie ❤️⚽️🌟What a super performance! She made some outstanding saves throughout the match, and you could see her confidence growing each time. Her bravery and concentration were brilliant to watch.Dixie ❤️⚽️🌟Our little firecracker was a constant attacking threat. Her awareness of teammates, especially Mia and Lucy, created several opportunities for goals. She delivered some lovely passes into the box and tested the goalkeeper with some excellent shots. Parent’s Player of the Match: Lucy 🏆🌟⚽️❤️What a performance from Lucy! She covered every blade of grass, playing all over the pitch. Her tackling was incredible, and she showed fantastic teamwork throughout the game, always willing to help her teammates and battle for every ball. She played a perfect centre-mid position today. Well done! Coach's Player of the Match: Mia 🏆🌟⚽️❤️Mia epitomised determination today. She battled from the first whistle to the last, never giving up despite the challenging heat. She kept firing shots at goal and constantly worked hard to keep the Rothwell Town defence on their toes. Even when she was tired, Mia dug deep and continued to push forward, showing tremendous character and effort.A huge well done to all of the girls for their hard work and resilience in such difficult conditions, and thank you to Rothwell Town for a competitive, enjoyable and well-played match. What a way to end an epic season ❤️❤️❤️❤️#upthethunder ... Match Report – Methley U15 girls vs Holbeck (2–4)After a show-stopping performance at the weekend for the reds, switching our weekly training session for a midweek match didn’t go our way.Holbeck took an early lead with a quick move down the left, playing through to the striker who found the back of the net. Despite enjoying the majority of possession, the girls couldn’t find an equaliser before the half-time whistle.Holbeck extended their lead from a corner to make it 0–2. Methley continued to create chances but couldn’t quite find the finish until Esmae got her left foot behind the ball to get on the scoresheet.Holbeck responded quickly with a third goal from a free kick on the edge of the box. They were then forced down to 10 players after their goalkeeper struggled with an injury, but still managed to maintain their lead and add a fourth. In the closing minutes, Lucy P drove forward for Methley and managed to nutmeg the keeper, an unfortunate error to make the final score 2–4.Methley’s first home defeat of the season, but plenty to learn from the game, ahead of next week’s final title decider. ... Methley U15 girls vs Horsforth Jets 4-0Methley U15 Girls put in an outstanding team performance yesterday at home to Horsforth despite illness, injuries and expeditions leaving the squad down to just 11 players. The girls trained hard all week, adapting to different positions and systems, and it showed from the very first whistle.Methley started brightly, playing some of the best football seen this season. The left-hand side partnership of Lucy W and Eva was exceptional, linking up brilliantly with strength, support and composure on the ball as the girls continued to move play forward with confidence. The breakthrough came after a driving run from Leila at right back. Her absolute worldie of a strike from outside the area smashed against the post before finding the back of the net. There were plenty of debates on the pitch afterwards as to whether Ava-Beau got the final touch with her head or shoulder, but we’ll let the girls settle that one themselves!Ava-Beau was determined to make her mark on the game and within 15 minutes had added two more goals, showing great calmness and composure in front of goal to send Methley into half-time with a deserved 3-0 lead.Horsforth changed shape in the second half, but the girls adapted brilliantly, naturally switching from a back three to a back four while continuing to show fantastic teamwork and spirit.Belle battled tirelessly up front all game, often taking on more than one defender at a time. Her hard work paid off when she won the ball, looked up quickly and delivered the most selfless pass across the face of goal for Pippa, who had plenty of space to calmly finish and make it four.Kadi, Aillie and Becca were a force to be reckoned with in Midfield and Lucy P a tower of strength throughout, whilst Mads caused chaos down the right wing, sprinting relentlessly up and down the pitch like a tennis ball to the constant shouts of Chris from the sideline! An absolutely outstanding performance from every single player. The girls worked for each other from start to finish and made everyone extremely proud. ♥️ 🖤 ⚽️ ... See MoreSee Less

The u10 Panthers travelled to Calverley today and they brought their beach vibes from the weekend playing with real cohesion, getting better and better as the game went on. There were some busy spells for the keepers early doors and the reliables in goal Penny and Ruby had that covered, supported by some great defensive play. As the Panthers settled into the game they turned the tables and the focus became more about relentless forward play and creating chances. ⚽️ Macey and Aurora were today’s goal scorers ⚽️The team attitude was spot on, as were the strong tackles, incisive passing and excellent set pieces. Coaches’ Player Bethany 💫Total commitment to the side before self mantra, up and down that wing supporting the defence and getting forward with blistering speed. The coaches commented on energy and effort, an important outlet for the Panthers today!Parents’ Player Matilda 💫A resolute performance, never gave up, chased every ball. Some strong, physical commitment needed and Matilda didn’t shy away from the battles. A real impact at the back!Opposition Player Aurora 💫There’s always a chance of goals when Aurora’s on the pitch and today she wowed with a superb assist and a long range goal, and came close to scoring more. Well-deserved!Another entertaining Saturday morning thanks to this great team, well played Panthers ❤️🖤❤️ ... See MoreSee Less
