Match Report: Riccall 0–6 Methley U13 WhitesIn what felt like our first game since 1996, the sun was finally out and Methley returned to the pitch with a worthy 6–0 victory away at Riccall. After a steady start, Methley’s opener came on the 5th minute, a superb lobbed ball into the box from Luca was knocked behind for a corner. Luca delivered a perfect cross which Dylan put into the Riccall net. Some superb wide play soon paid dividends, with Blake firing home Methley’s second of the game. The pressure continued to build as Oli R added a third, before Dylan grabbed his second of the match to cap off a dominant first-half display sending Methley into the break 4–0 up.Methley were quick out of the blocks again in the second half. More great wing play and a fantastic ball into the Riccall box was deflected into their own net, extending the lead to five.Riccall though never let their heads drop and came close to pulling one back on a couple of occasions, but Methley’s defence stood firm. Olly Y and Teddy were solid at the back helping Logan keep a deserved clean sheet. Blake then rounded off the scoring, netting his second of the match to seal a 6–0 win. There were standout performances all over the pitch. Lucas was again fantastic in midfield, Luca was a constant threat with his dangerous runs down the right wing and excellent deliveries into the box, also Archie whose performance earned him both the Coaches’ Player and Parents’ Player of the Match awards.A brilliant team performance and a perfect return to action for Methley. ... Methley Vipers U9 vs Amaranth Crossgates U9 Blacks - Match ReportToday was the quarter final of our U9 Challenge Plate journey against Crossgates Amaranth Blacks! Today we celebrated the life of Ella, from Rothwell Jnrs u10s and Wakefield AFC u10s, who sadly passed away of cancer. We held a minutes applause and our thoughts are with Ella’s family and friends. From the start, we played some great passes and defended well against a great Amaranth side. We held out until a great shot from Amaranth broke the stalemate. There was a lot of back and forth and lots of crossbar hits, with some stunning saves from Joel and the opposition keeper, Joel pulling off a double save one of the highlights of the half that also included a goal from H that deflected off a defender into the Amaranth net.Second half came along and once again the boys were strong and kept pushing and looking for their next goal but Amaranth were very strong on the attack and scored a couple of lovely goals. The boys kept their chins up and kept on pushing for another goal. That came from Noah taking a run down the right and shooting it past the Amaranth keeper. The game ended with a 5-2 loss but the boys played brilliantly, kept their heads up and showed a great account of themselves as a team.Goals:HenryNoahPlayers of the match:Opposition was given to Tomas, for his footwork, determination and dribbling.Coaches was given to Joel for his super shot stopping and some spectacular saves.Although it was a loss, the coaches are so proud of how they came out fighting. Good luck to Amaranth Blacks in the semi final! Well done Methley Vipers! ... See MoreSee Less

Methley Strikers U7s Away at Leeds Ajax – Match ReportMethley Strikers delivered a performance full of heart, energy, and proper U7s chaos‑magic away at Leeds Ajax. The lads worked their socks off from first whistle to last, showing bravery in the tackle, clever moments on the ball, and a real desire to play for each other. There were mistakes – as there always are at this age – but the commitment, effort, and flashes of real quality made it another hugely positive outing.⭐ Player SpotlightsSeb – Teammate of the MatchA warrior from start to finish. Seb threw himself into challenges, blocked shots with every part of his body, and showed brilliant bravery in defence. When he stepped into goal, he was calm, focused, and made some excellent stops. Another standout performance and fully deserving of Teammate of the Match.NathanielPressed high all game and caused Leeds Ajax real problems. His energy helped create chances, and he showed great awareness to set up Methley’s first goal with a well‑timed assist. A clever, hard‑working display.EllisWorked tirelessly for the team, constantly closing down opponents and putting in some strong tackles. His effort levels never dropped, and he helped keep Methley on the front foot with his determination.Kye – Parents’ Player of the MatchA fantastic all‑round performance. Kye covered every blade of grass, tackled with real strength, dribbled confidently, and capped it off with a brilliantly taken goal. His work rate and quality stood out throughout, earning him Parents’ Player of the Match.Albie – Coaches’ Player of the MatchA constant threat going forward. Albie battled hard, drove at defenders with pace and quick feet, and scored two excellent goals. He was inches away from a hat‑trick after smashing a long‑range free‑kick off the bar late on. A top‑class display and worthy Coaches’ Player of the Match.FinleySolid and dependable at the back. Finley defended bravely, made important tackles, and looked to play forward whenever he could. His decision‑making and willingness to build attacks were big positives.🔵 SummaryMethley Strikers put in a strong performance full of energy, work rate, and moments of real quality. They pressed well, battled hard, and showed great teamwork throughout. A few mistakes crept in – as they do at this age – but those will iron out over time. Both teams stood together in a touching show of respect — a proud moment that reflected real maturity from every player❤️From kick-off, Garforth Villa applied strong early pressure and proved to be tough opposition throughout. Credit to them — they were organised, energetic, and ready to compete. Methley, though, showed the benefits of their hard work in training, with some excellent passages of play across the game. The defence read the game brilliantly, stepping in with well-timed tackles and showing real bravery to clear their lines when needed. The U10s Whites hosted Featherstone in the cup this morning. Firstly well done to all the players for observing the minute's applause for Ella. We struggled to get going a bit first half but found our way into the game second half where we pressed the opposition well and scored our goals with some much better passing and forward play. There was also some much better defending and passing out of defence from James, Alex, Ethan and Zach and a special mention to James for his fantastic block as the last line of defence in the closing minutes. There were some brilliant saves from Riley especially 1st half to keep the score down and he was so close to tipping the opposition's thunder goal over the bar. A brilliant display from both Carter and Jesse who played in central defensive midfield first half and up front 2nd half pressing from the front and really contributing towards our goals saw them earn the parent's choice captain and player of the match respectively. Special shout out to Harry for stepping into the central defensive midfield role 2nd half and playing some very composed passes forward. Great work on the wings again from Joe, Aaron and Thomas pressing forwards and getting back to defend. A hatrick for thomas and a goal for Joe who was also voted teammate of the match by the players. ... See MoreSee Less

Methley United Lionesses U11 delivered a performance full of character and composure as they faced Bradford City Ambers at Woodlesford, school. Before kick-off, players, coaches and parents united in a moving minute’s applause to honour Ella Lynchs bravery and spirit, a tribute observed with heartfelt respect. When the football began, Methley started on the front foot. An early effort was ruled out for offside and a strong penalty appeal was waved away inside the opening ten minutes, signalling the Lionesses’ attacking intent. Despite their positive start, it was Bradford who struck first, taking the lead before doubling their advantage with a clinical breakaway, finished from close range against the run of play. The scoreline, however, did not reflect the balance of the contest. After the interval, Methley emerged with renewed purpose. Ellie, Ayda and Lola formed a resolute defensive unit, reading danger well and stepping in with authority, while Freya produced two sharp saves to prevent Bradford from extending their lead. The momentum began to shift decisively. Maya showed tremendous determination to win possession inside the area, drawing a foul in the process. Emma stepped up with composure beyond her years to convert the penalty and ignite the comeback. From that moment, Methley controlled proceedings. Chloe and Renae dictated the tempo in midfield, winning duels and distributing intelligently to Gabby, Luna and Ella, who found space between the lines. Up front, Emma, Saskia and Maya posed a constant threat, their movement and pressing unsettling the Bradford back line. Further appeals for penalties were turned down as the contest grew increasingly physical. With the game entering its final minute, drama unfolded once more. A push in the back sent Saskia to the ground, but she managed to get her shot away. From the resulting goal kick, her determination shone through. Anticipating the pass, she robbed the defender, drove forward and struck a superb effort from 15 yards high into the net, a moment of instinct, bravery and belief that secured a remarkable turnaround. What a moment! On a day framed by remembrance, the Lionesses displayed resilience, unity and heart. It was a performance that honoured Ella’s memory in the most fitting way possible with courage, togetherness and a refusal to give in. ... See MoreSee Less

🏆 Methley Rebels U12s Storm Into the Plate FinalA 5–0 semi‑final win over Crossley Belles saw Methley Rebels roar into their second consecutive Plate Final, continuing their defence of the trophy they lifted last season. Back on grass for the first time in months, the girls took a little time to adjust, but once they settled, they grew stronger, sharper, and more dominant with every minute. By full time, they were playing some of their best football of the season.⭐ Player SpotlightsLiliana – Calm, Commanding, ConfidentA rock at the back. Liliana’s communication was superb, claiming the ball early and distributing with real quality. She gives the whole team confidence and set the tone defensively.Effie – Birthday Brilliance (Coaches’ Player of the Match)Effie delivered her best performance of the season on her birthday. Calm on the ball, composed under pressure, and relentless in the tackle. She covered brilliantly and won countless duels. A fully deserved award.Nancy – Reading the Game Like a VeteranAnother fantastic display. Nancy’s anticipation is outstanding—stepping in early, stopping attacks, and playing beautiful passes out from the back. Fast, smart, and assured.Orlaith – The Settler and the SparkOutstanding throughout. Her well‑taken opener settled the nerves and she worked tirelessly in midfield. Added an assist and was inches away from player of the match. A standout performance.Evie – Heart, Strength, and Relentless EffortEvie gave everything—tackling hard, tracking runners, and using her throw‑ins as a genuine attacking weapon. Strong, brave, and dependable.Kate – First Rebels Goal in a Semi‑FinalWhat a moment. Kate grabbed her first Rebels goal on the big stage and backed it up with a hardworking, disciplined defensive performance. The coaches were thrilled to see her open her account.Flo – Brave, Creative, and EverywhereTurning up with tonsillitis and still producing a top‑level performance says everything about Flo. She created chances, pressed defenders, and played with real bravery and intelligence.Iris – Confidence Restored, Class on DisplayIris is fully back to her best—strong, fast, and full of belief. Her one‑twos with Bella were a joy to watch and she was unstoppable at times. A brilliant all‑round showing.Ams – The Engine and the EnforcerAms did what she always does—breaking up play, covering huge distances, and disrupting attacks. Her work rate, even when she doesn’t get the ball, is immense. A true Rebels warrior.Bella – Clinical, Powerful, Unplayable (Parents’ Player of the Match)Methley’s very own Erling Haaland. Bella was absolutely lethal in front of goal, smashing home a superb hat‑trick. But it wasn’t just the goals—her hold‑up play, link‑up with Iris, and all‑round intelligence were outstanding. The parents recognised what everyone saw: a complete centre‑forward performance.🔥 Final WhistleA brilliant team display full of heart, quality, and togetherness. The Rebels storm into the final for the second year running, and the coaches couldn’t be prouder. The parents should be too—this is a special group, playing with belief, bravery, and a champion’s mentality. ... See MoreSee Less

The Cup clash of the longest WinterMethley U15 girls vs Wetherby After what’s felt like months of rain, when the wet grass lay soggy beneath iron skies and the winds howled like direwolves across the fields of Yorkshire, the day of reckoning finally came. The pitch, battered by winter’s cruelty, stood ready once more. And so began the cup clash between Methley and Wetherby — a contest worthy of the chronicles of old.Methley wasted no time in drawing first blood. From the opening charge, Ailie of the MK Foot broke through the cold air like a raven in flight and struck true. The ball kissed the net, and Methley’s banners rose high. 1–0. The Red’s had spoken early.Yet Wetherby were no mere bannermen. They answered with resolve. What followed was a furious exchange — the ball flying end to end as though caught in some enchanted tennis duel, neither side yielding ground. Steel met steel, boot met ball, and hearts pounded in chests. At last, Wetherby found their moment. Through persistence and pressure, they carved their equaliser, restoring balance to the realm. The horn sounded for half-time: 1–1. Neither team prepared to kneel. The second half began uncertainly for Methley. The long hiatus from battle showed in their touch; passes strayed like weary travellers in the sodden terrain . Wetherby sensed weakness. On a sharp break of play — swift and merciless — slick feet danced through Methley’s ranks. A strike to the far post found its mark. Wetherby seized the advantage. 1–2. The tide had turned. But Methley are forged of sterner stuff. Refusing to bend the knee, Methley pressed forward again and again. Chance after chance rained down upon the Wetherby goal like arrows from the trench. Then came the moment. After a scramble in the box Poppers of the Yorkshire Rose with courage and conviction put foot to ball and the net rippled. The roar echoed across the winter field. 2–2. The realm trembled once more. Both sides conjured heart-stopping chances to claim victory in open battle. A shot here, a near miss there — gasps from the sidelines as fate toyed with both sides. Yet no victor emerged before the final whistle’s cry.And so it came to the cruel theatre of penalties. For Methley, Ava of the Cliffe Guard donned the gloves and took her place between the posts — the last shield of her team. One by one, Methley’s chosen stepped forward: • Pippa — ice in her veins — struck true. • Esmae — calm as still waters — buried hers with precision. • Kadi — bold and unwavering — sent the ball screaming past the keeper. • Emily — resolute to the end — sealed her effort beyond doubt. Each penalty found the net. No mercy. No hesitation. With Ava standing tall in goal and Methley flawless from the mark, the victory was secured.👑 Victory for the Red’sWhen the final penalty settled and the battle was won, Methley stood triumphant — not through dominance alone, but through resilience, unity, and unbreakable spirit in the face of winter’s trial. The long postponements, the wet soggy grounds, the rocky return — all were conquered. And so it shall be written:Methley 2 – 2 WetherbyMethley win on penalties. The Long Winter could not claim them. ⚔️ ...
