Welcome to Methley United Football Club!
Our club is built on the belief that football should be something everyone can enjoy, regardless of age, ability, or background. We have something truly special here in Methley—a dedicated team of volunteers and a supportive community that makes all the difference. Thank you for being part of our journey, and I look forward to seeing you on the pitch!

We just wanted to be clear and transparent as we know Methley, along with the whole Yorkshire area have been asked to stop using their hose pipes as the country bakes in the driest period for many, many years.![]()
We have recently undergone essential works on our pitches in our goal areas, areas with no grass protection tend to freeze in the winter period and lead to the most injuries so the work we do is to protect our players and to ensure less postponements during the season.![]()
Over the past 4 years we have attempted to do the watering by watering cans - sadly this has become back breaking due to the areas to cover - 2 people doing this takes nearly 2 hours a day, filling them up in the kitchen and then carrying them out to the edges of the fields where the goal areas tend to be located. It also meant we did not have many volunteers as it was such a time consuming and not a pleasant experience !!!![]()
Last year we invested club funds in a 200m hosepipe and reel, this really helped last year and we got a few volunteers willing to help keep the seed watered. ![]()
Following the announcement last week by Yorkshire water we contacted them direct, as with many local football clubs we had performed maintenance on the pitches and wanted to make sure we were not breaking any laws by continuing to use the hosepipe rather than reverting to buckets and watering can.![]()
We were delighted and relieved with the response from Yorkshire Water, it means that we can continue the exercise of watering the newly seeded areas and hopefully in the coming weeks we will begin to see the green shoots appearing.![]()
We thought it was vital we let people in our local community aware, as we did not want to be reported by local residents. As a club, all the volunteers who are watering the newly seeded areas are all conscious of the situation, we will only be using water around the areas we have seeded. ![]()
I just wanted to post on the clubs page so people were aware and also on the community page, just so as many people were aware that we have checked that we are ok to do this.![]()
All our volunteers have the evidence on their phone from Yorkshire Water so anyone not on FB we can politely advise of the situation.![]()
Enjoy the warm weather everyone

Methley Vets 1–1 Headingley Vets – Match Report![]()
On a humid July evening with gaffer Clayson sunning himself abroad, Methley Vets battled to a gritty 1–1 draw against Headingley Vets — a match full of commitment, flashes of quality, and a touch of chaos.
Big thanks to stand-in keeper Heppy, who turned up and grafted after a lads’ golf weekend, no sleep for days, and a tough shift at work. Top effort.![]()
Methley struck first with a flowing move down the left. Josh Price, all pace and purpose, left his full-back for dead and squared smartly across the box. Waiting at the back post was Brenton Johnson, who coolly slotted home to give Methley the lead. A classic counter and clinical finish, but unfortunately for Brent, he left the field shortly after with a suspected broken foot.![]()
And the lead didn’t last. Headingley pulled level after a breakdown in communication at the back. A moment of hesitation between defence and midfield allowed their striker to break free and poke it home. Frustration all round, and an undeserved equalizer, in my humble opinion.![]()
From there the game ebbed and flowed. In a baffling off-the-ball incident, captain Tucker somehow managed to shoulder the referee square in the face – coincidentally just a few moments after a teammate’s complaints over a late tackle had been waved away. It was a collision that left the official down and dazed. He restarted proceedings once he’d regained his bearings, but the damage — to both dignity and nasal cartilage — was done.![]()
Shortly after, Price got himself booked for what can only be described as an invisible foul. Nobody in the ground saw it — not the bench, not the players, not even Price himself — but the card came out, and Price took it with a shrug and a smile.![]()
Browesy very nearly grabbed a second half winner with a solo run that saw him slalom past five or six defenders — a mazy dribble that had echoes from 1981 of “and still Ricky Villa” if not quite the same finish, the shot sailing just over the bar to collective groans.![]()
There were strong performances across the pitch, but, alongside Price, Morts stood out as man of the match. Calm on the ball, solid in the challenge, and quietly running the show from the right-hand side — “he’s good you know,” came the understated whispers from the stands.![]()
Meanwhile, out on the edge of the box, Dylan spent much of the match standing in acres of space, arms raised in vain. Time and again he was ignored. Methley’s own Tony Yeboah from that distance. When the ball comes, he buries it, as he’s shown all year.![]()
Jona was missed, still sidelined after last week’s knock, but the bench was strong and full of youthful quality. There was the resilience, spirit, and enough class to suggest Methley are building momentum.![]()
As far as 1–1 draws go, this had a bit of everything: a sharp opener, a messy equaliser, a nearly-worldie, a booking out of nowhere and the skipper nearly breaking the ref. A point shared, but plenty of positives.

We are asked so often what is the ingredient of our success. How can you have gone from almost extinction 14 years ago to having 50 teams, the answer is really simple. ![]()
We have amazing parent volunteers that step up from inside our mini lions (u5/6s), they buy in to the Methley culture from day 1, they care for all the children, not just their own child and rather than targeting to win trophies their aim is to simply keep the players playing by making each and every child’s football experience as fun as it can be ❤️⚽️❤️![]()
At Methley United we have had a strong mini lions section for many years, boys, girls all starting their journeys in a fun and friendly environment - no where else comes close. We have experienced coaches mentoring new parent volunteers, we have older players getting involved coaching, namely our u14s girls of which 7 girls come every week 9-10am to help and support the youngsters - they connect and show genuine love for each child. ![]()
We know we do things different in Methley, we also know we do things the right way. We offer something for every child, we accommodate players that just want to come and have fun on a Sunday morning and we facilitate players who really show desire and who want to chase their dreams. ![]()
We are seeing more and more children being scouted from the age of 5 to clubs such as Leeds, Man City and Sheffield United to name but a few. It’s remarkable - never has the club had such presence - we are here for the long term and we can not wait for some of our players to step up on the professional stage, we have many doing scholarships, with semi pro contracts who played for their village team throughout their junior football journey. We should be proud and we are ❤️⚽️❤️![]()
Our mini lions section is where it all begins, the demand in our u5/6s group every Sunday morning 9-10am throughout the season is huge. We have over 50 girls/boys having fun - each year we are creating on average an additional 4/5 teams as the u6s move to our U7s. It’s so lovely to see ❤️⚽️❤️![]()
The mini lions section is a busy group, spaces are limited as the demand is huge. Sadly you can no longer start at 6 and play in the U7s, the journey needs to begin in the u5s to guarantee a place in the team. To keep this success progressing we need more and more parent volunteers every year to take the teams forward - keep being amazing Methley you have done the village and yourselves proud ❤️⚽️❤️![]()

Events like this today are really shocking, 2 brothers, 2 footballers and a family broken by such a tragic incident.![]()
It’s times like this when football shows it’s true colours, rivalry in football is rife but whatever team you support or follow, this is when football is at its best when we all come together ❤️⚽️❤️![]()

Wakefield Owls Gala 2025![]()
Today our U8 Vipers played in the Wakefield Owls gala in a 7v7 format. Good prep for next seasons U9s.![]()
We started our group phase with a good strong win against Crofton, winning 3-1, before losing 2-0 to Horsforth St Margaret’s Mavericks, and then seeing out a stalemate in our last group match against SCOT FC. This meant we finished 2nd in our group. ![]()
Next was a semi final against Pontefract Collieries Reds, who had won all their group games (and I believe were unbeaten in the league this season also) the game was evenly matched, plenty of chances and great play from both sides, but it was Pontefract who took the lead with a well worked goal from a corner. The game still ebbed and flowed and with the very last kick of the game, up stepped super Ro to take us into a penalty shoot-out. ![]()
Some very good penalties taken by both teams, Lucas unlucky with his kick, went high and hard but the keeper managed to get a hand on it. Tomas, Noah and H all neatly finished their penalties. In goals, up stepped golden hands Joel, who seems to love facing penalties, saving 3 out of 4 penalties and that was our Vipers through to a final, where we played Mavericks again from our group.![]()
This game definitely wasn’t the same as the group. It was another tightly contested game, with great play across the whole pitch by both sides, however this time, no one could find the back of net. Horsforth almost got us in the last few seconds of the match, but Joel pulled off a double save to keep it 0-0 and into another penalty shoot-out. ![]()
More great penalties again from both sides, but our luck had gone, and the final was lost cruelly on penalties.![]()
Super proud of this team. This was our first tournament/gala in a 7v7 format and we’re already looking forward to what they produce in this format next season. Well done Methley Vipers

Well done Methley ❤️⚽️❤️![]()
We did it again …. after 2 of the most fabulous weekends we have smashed it out of the park beating our previous gala records, beating last years gala profits by £3k which is quite unbelievable !!!![]()
We have some upcoming meetings with the local FA about our club strategy/plan and we are eager to kick in with improving our facilities for all our members in future years. The effort over the past 2 weekends is so worthwhile as it will enable us to contribute to some huge projects we are keen to progress ❤️⚽️❤️![]()
We have our club AGM on Thursday 24th July at St Margaret’s Hall, Methley we would love you to join us for a few drinks and a few pizzas to celebrate the huge success and look forward to the future and fill important roles within the club that can help us become even better 🙏🏼⚽️🙏🏼![]()
We have communicated the dates of the AGM with all our club coaches, so hopefully many people can make this, we have also communicated the funds raised through the gala event over the past 2 weekends so hopefully you will have received the details, if not please ask your age group coach as we want to ensure the great news and the thank that have been sent have all been shared 🙏🏼
